You can put a “brace” on a short barrel rifle and treat it as a pistol legally. If you put a stock on a short barrel rifle you got to get approval from the government and let them know when you are taking it places like across state lines I believe.
Instead of doing the rational thing and removing the restriction on actual stock short barrel rifles he is moving the opposite directions trying to ban the “pistol” versions.

Most people I’ve seen that use short barrel rifles put a can on them anyways effectively lengthening the barrel to legal standards for a long rifle barrel.

These “pistols” are actual just short barrel rifles with a brace instead of a stock on them.
This is technically a pistol by law and doesn’t have to be regulated like a short barrel rifle.
It’s just stupid because these clearly haven’t been a problem.
