FedEx Express actually has several classifications of handlers. In my area there are Ramp Handlers, who must pass an FBI and TSA background check and have airport ID. They operate GSE(tugs, loaders, etc),handle pkgs, and help load CTV's. The current starting rate for this type of handler in my market is $12.50 an hour, and they typically get around 5 hours per shift. Early AM and evening shifts are available. There are also Station Handlers, who typically only load and unload containers and assist drivers in loading/unloading their trucks. They usually get fewer hours and make less money than a Ramp Handler...I'm not sure of their current rate. Also an AM or PM position. A third type is a "Material Handler" (not sure if that's the exact name), and these are the people who handle loading Heavyweight trucks, are certified forklift operators, and who usually have specialized knowledge about International requirements. They help build the Heavyweight pallets and containers, load customer trucks, and also usually do some data entry. They top-out at around $20.00 per hr in my market area, and also work at the airport and must pass the TSA and FBI background checks for airport ID. These employees are on various AM and PM shifts. FedEx Ground is entirely different, and since I don't work for that division I'm not sure of their hours and/or pay. I do know that there is a lot of turnover for every position but the "Material Handler" and that they're always looking for people.
