I am proud of my locals negotiaing efforts, while ashamed of the rest of the country. Here is a new article to read: http://socialistworker.org/2008/07/30/strike-vote-chicago-ups I think the problem is that the UPS negotiating team is panicing because 705 is putting up a strong fight for a progressive contract rather than being pushed around. National screwed us over big time, that is why we are taking matters into our own hands. I'm confident the hard nosed aproach management is taking will soften up once we live up to our words, as in the past. I'm sure as a manager you are aware that Chicago is the transportation heart of the country whilist being one of the strongest union areas in the country. UPS will only be able to divert packages for so long until they realise it will be cheaper to pay us fairly. CACH has it's own railyard, and trains save UPS tons of money. Yes, we may be shooting ourselves in the foot but a strike is meant to inflict financial loss to the company. The financial loss to the company will be much higher than to members of local 705 because we only see a small fraction of the revenue we generate in our paychecks.:happy2:
