True. He was a communist but Tito was very popular in Yugoslavia. He defied the Soviets and worked tirelessly to give Yugoslavs a better life. Held Yugoslavia together until his death then religious and ethnic tensions boiled over.

Saudi Arabia is far from benevolent but the monarchy provides one of the few areas of stability in the area.
They're actually working with the Israelis because they hate and fear Iran even more.

What opportunity? The only thing Saudi Arabia has is oil. We needed it. Now, not so much.
Iranian backed Yemenis were attacking Saudi Arabia. Thus Saudi Arabia's attacks on Yemen.
And vice versa. It was fine supporting the Shiites when we wanted to oust Saddam Hussein. But that gave Iran an in and they're the single biggest pain in the neck Islam wise, and that's saying something.
And again where are all these nations where the people have the power?
