By January 2021 the illegal-immigrant population had fallen substantially to 10.22 million, a decline of nearly 1.26 million compared to 2019, primarily due to the pandemic. It then rebounded dramatically to 11.35 million by January 2022,  This means that the illegal population grew by over one million in the year since President Biden took office and the ongoing border surge began.
