Very true but that's the BS thing about it you don't NEED a degree to do a lot of this stuff.

I have a friend that's in the tech industry. No real degree he took like a 6 months trade course. He says I can have my kid trained to write code by 14 at an acceptable level to work for these companies but now they all want 4 year degrees
The problem today is you need it to get yourself in the door unless you know people. Everyone today has a BA so anything less wouldn't even get you an interview. That's why I said just get the paper as cheap as you can.

You want a toe? I can get you a toe.

Not only that. Now you have employees who have been doing their jobs for 20+ years being forced to go back and get their degrees.

My wife's old hospital was giving all nurses 5 years to get 4 year degrees or be replaced.

Very true. My uncle is a multimillionaire who's written books on certain code languages and starts different projects and businesses all the time. Always has a good idea that makes money. Will create apps/games just for fun in spare time.

He dropped out of college after the first semester and never looked back.

I think the key is he's done alot on his own. No degree required when you're the boss!

Deplorable.
Community college to get your degree cheap. Seems like all people care about is having a degree not where it comes from.

This is it right here. My sister went to CC for 3 years, then transfered credits for 4th year to the name-brand Big 10 school that handed her a masters in psychology.

Discount knowledge at community college.

- Bill Gates
- Mark Zuckerberg
- Steve Jobs
- Micheal Dell
- Micheal Ellison (Oracle founder)
- Oprah Winfrey
- Ted Turner
- Walt Disney
- Frank Lloyd Wright
- James Cameron
- Abraham Lincoln (age 12 dropout)
- Richard Branson
- Ralph Lauren
- John Lennon
- Julian Assange
- John Mackey (Whole Foods founder)
- David Neeleman (JetBlue founder)
- Jack Taylor (Enterprise Rent-A-Car founder)

Take those people vs the millions of living people on the planet and give me the percentage.

More importantly, only about 50% of college graduates use their degrees.

I did 6 years, 2 degrees and am enjoying a UPS driving career.
Not the only package car driver with a Masters degree working next to a (maybe) High School graduate driver. Not being critical because you are an educated person, perhaps more jealous.

Agree but again still my point is valid in that a person with a degree (any degree) still gets pick over someone without.

I agree completely that a degree in anything will get a person promoted to mail room supervisor over the other mail room employees. Just like the PT employee being promoted to PT sup after two weeks because he is more educated after completing a semester at community college.

Not a Master's, just an Associate's in one thing, and a Bachelor's in another.

In a majority of cases yes, but a lot of employers are looking at what people have done in their life that could be more valuable than college. Even in Silicon Valley this is true.

I have a bachelor's degree too working at UPS.

My family has mechanical, multiple electrical, plastics, and nuclear engineers, coders, etc.

I guess I'm the dummy of the bunch but I know how to have fun lol

I wouldn't just throw degree out there and say that person will get the job. There are some cases where if you are overqualified they won't hire you. During the 08 recession my brother was out of work for a few years. He's very educated. And he couldn't get certain jobs he wanted because he was slightly overqualified and the companies knew when things picked up again and the recession was over he would quit for something better.
