It kept the King from putting his political opponents in jail hence keeping them from contesting the King.
England doesn't use Grand Jury anymore.

Fast forward many, many years.
Guess who is using Grand Jury to suppress/jail his political opponent?

If it was a slam dunk case they wouldn’t pile a bunch of stupid charges. They normally do that to make an example out of someone, lol. The gag order and these petty charges just will embolden his followers and say he was right.
