In the end, having a president incite a riot and get 5 people dead as a result is truly terrible stuff. trump’s presidency in some years will be condemn by nearly everyone just like the Iraq war is now condemned by nearly everyone. He was a one term failure, who never received even 47% of the votes of American voters in either election. His two main opponents in two elections received a total of 10million more votes than he did. If republican voters believed the votes of other Americans were just as important as their votes....that would matter to them. It would tell them how unpopular trump was with the majority of American voters in two elections that over 53% of voters didn’t vote for trump to be potus.

The Senate tries an impeached president to determine if what he's been impeached for requires removal from office. If he's already gone there's no trial. Can't be done and has never even been suggested in history. This impeachment is purely symbolic.
