Edgar Hoover took the helm and he took the agency to a whole other level.  In 1932' the BOI became known as the United States BOI and then in 1935 it became known as the Federal Bureau of Investigation or FBI  for short.  The Red Scare and the 1960's into the 1970's with CoIntelPro was where the FBI  became as much a form of an American Gestopo.</p></blockquote><p></p>
