So I've spent the last week as a lab rat but it was worth it. I have some official results concerning the Twin Hill uniforms. I had 76 different patches on my back. 4 of them were Twin Hill uniform samples. I had a sample from the hat, a pair of pants from the Chinese uniform and a pair from the American made uniform as well as a sample from a shirt that was 100% cotton. The other patches were for rubber compounds, adhesives, benzene componds (disperse dyes break down into benzene), formaldehyde compounds and common cosmetic compounds to rule out things like ingredients in soap. The results: I do in fact have allergic contact dermatitis. I am reacting to the Twin Hill uniforms made both over seas and in America. I reacted to the poly-cotton blend and the 100% cotton alternative as well as the hat. Especially the hat. I also reacted to formaldehyde and formaldehyde compound resin. I'm going back in today to get a biopsy so that there is no doubt that it is contact dermatitis. The next step will be to turn in ADA, L&I, and friend/MLA paper work to get UPS on top of finding a suitable alternative uniform, get reimbursed for the doc's visits and tests and get me some time off to let my skin heal up a bit. UPS is determined to ignore the fact that there may be a danger associated with the uniforms and take this on a case by case basis. It is important that you each go through this same process. Keep your management team and you union rep's informed as you do so. File ADA, SIS2, and possibly friend/MLA to get the week off for testing. Yes it takes a whole week to do these tests and then a few days more for biopsy. You may want to take more than one week because if you are experiencing a bad breakout like mine then the patch test will make it worse. Take as many different samples from uniforms as you can.
