This depends on where you are. Different areas have different rules for probation. Ask co workers who your steward is and ask him/her that question. Don't ask a supervisor....ask a Co worker.

Welcome to the BC. You can join the union based on your local supplement. Usually it’s after you make your intro period. (30 days?).
