Same as 97. FedEx put it out there if you ship your pkgs with UPS, they will end up sitting in the buildings, not delivered. They really pushed the media on that. UPS tried to approach the Union that the shippers would sign contracts with FedEx and UPS would lose volume they would not recover after strike and therefore would have to eliminate positions. I remember going to a meeting in Louisville and the pilots were there and they promised to stand with us and honor the strike. And as far as UPS trying to deliver what was in the building when the strike started, most of the pkg cars being drove through the gates by management were empty. Just a show for the union that they were still delivering packages. Some packages were delivered, ones that customers put pressure on them because of how important that pkg was needed. The building was a mess when strike was over as many of us who were there in 97 seen when we came back into the bldg. Thing is, just like 97, Media is important. Our local media came out to our picket lines and interviewed the strikers and we were able to get our opinions on the air and newspapers. Under this contract, the impossible wages that a part timer has to survive on, the healthcare fiasco, the 6 day 70 hour weeks will all help persuade public opinion again. And now Social Media is a powerful tool.
