What is considered your retirement date, your last day worked or the following day when you are officially off work ? A trivial question I'm curious about.

I always use the first day of my retirement. So the following day when you are officially off work would be my answer.

The first work day where you can roll over and not go into work.
Go ahead and call in "Won't be in today, don't feel like working!"
Turn off your phone and go back to sleep!

I looked at it like this. Your view may differ! If so please cry in some others Teamsters beer!

example:
Day I started and officially worked as a Teamster was my first punch in at 4 pm Monday 9-29-1969

The day I retired and officially no longer worked for UPS was the day I punched out on the company clock was 5 pm 9-28-1999

So for me (not my dates)
Wasn't an employee till first day on 9-29-69 and it that clock at 4 pm
Wasn't any longer an employee after I hit that last punch out 9-28-99 the day I walked out that building a free man based on choices!

Choices Ya gotta Love them!
