Couple blocks north of Capitol is H st. Back in the 90s it was the dividing line between the yuppies and congressman that lived on Capitol Hill and the ghettos that were Trinidad, Abbey Place, the Market etc... At the west end of H st used to be the Capitol Children's Museum. So tourists would have the pleasure of walking down H st to get to the museum depending on where they found parking. There was a company across the street from the museum that did forensic photo work for the government. They were in a building that on the outside looked like a beat up old brick structure...no windows one door. They only used UPS, no Fed Ex, no Post Office. Next door was a liquor store so all the winos would lay around out front on the sidewalk, in the street, up against the door. So.....one day I'm coming out of the pickup woth a handcart full of packages. Down the sidewalk to my right comes a nice looking family of 4. Conservatively dressed parents in their Sunday best, son and daughter dressed nice too on their way to the Children's Museum. Then to my horror I hear this grunting sound coming from my left. I look towards the sound and see this old wino laying on his side facing away from me. He is naked from the waist down and apparently decided to drop a deuce while laying in that poisition. He rolls over towards me and starts laughing. Then he begins to...well....take care of himself. By this time rhe family is standing next to me with looks of shear horror on their faces. The wino laughs again...now finished...gets up...steps in his own filth and walks down the alley next to the liquor store. I felt so bad for that family. I can only imagine what the parents had to go through trying to explain to tjeir children what tjey just witnessed. Welcome to Washington D.C., your nation's Capitol!
