UPS had job fair at the local university the last week of April. I applied and did all the paperwork and fingerprinting that they required at the time. They said it will take a few weeks to process be hired. Got call the next day which was the last day of April for the midnight sort. I arrive on time and ready to start, they manager says no told him I was starting and he didn't need me so I go home. The next day I get called to come in on the twilight sort. I need to be on time for sort or don't have a job. I make it on time and work the sort. Later that night I get a call to work the midnight sort. The manager was upset that worked the twilight and been assigned to that sort permanently. I say all of that because if I worked on April 30 I would have been permanent hire that gained seniority in 30 days, Since I started one May 1st, I was considered summer seasonal that had to work the summer and gain seniority have Labor Day. The added insult was not making seniority by August 1st, I missed out on the $500 bonus that was awarded on December 1st the next three years. Agitated the poor college student me to no end when everyone talked about the bonus checks. That's when I realized it was numbers game.
