Why does the government have to do it? Why can't communities and churches step up instead of waiting for daddy government to come save them?
There are things that are beyond the scope of local charities. Earthquakes, tornadoes, wildfires, hurricanes. Road repairs, gas lines, phone lines, aiding the injured, pretty extensive list. But like DIDO pointed out and newolddude doesn't understand, disasters shouldn't be opportunities to lay on pork projects that wouldn't get passed without sneaking them into larger bills.

I just don't think it's the job of the federal government.
