Does anyone else think its a bit odd that when searching things about unions and strikes the "socialist" sure have a lot to say. Do a search on the auto lite strike, it will pull you to a communist website. Creepy

Unions were formed out of the Socialist movements in the late 1800's on through today. Unions by their nature are Socialist organizations for the membership while Union leadership tends to be very Capitalistic in outlook and execution.

Big businesses railed against Social Security and Medicare when FDR first proposed them, referring to them as a communist conspiracy. I'll tell you what's creepy: the continuing pattern throughout American history of any political gains made by working people being slammed as a communist plot. If red baiting wasn't an effective tool at holding back progress, then it wouldn't have been used so often during the 1920's, the 1930's, the '40's, the 50's, and the '60's.

Quite frankly, the so-called "radicals" in the early labor movement were the very ones that brought us many of the gains we have today. When the CIO split from the AFL, it was over "industrial" organizing. AFL Unions (including the Teamsters at the time) did not believe so-called unskilled workers deserved a union. Cornelius Shea, the first Teamsters president, even called unskilled workers "trash." One of the greatest strikes in American history was led by Trotskyites in Teamsters Local 574 -- Minneapolis Teamsters Strike of 1934 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Correction: Medicare was first established by LBJ, a New Dealer that earned his stripes under FDR.

Luckily that attitude has changed. It seems skilled labor today resists Unionization but I wonder how soon programmers, accountants and even management begin to start forming some type of collective bargaining organizations?

There is a pretty good writing about this in the book "Big Brown."

I have this book in my bathroom. It might stay there. As a historical archive I might read it, however, I did not read any thing about negativity and harassment. That would be an inside look of the company as the book claims.

Do you keep the book there in case you run out of toilet paper?

I swear to you it's on my toilet roll paper dispenser. How ironic! I did not make this up and really didn't do it on purpose probably subliminally. This is funny.

I just took a look at it last night for the first time and once I read all the positivity I put it down. All we can personally think of is slimey tactics, mental abuse, over dispatched, etc. UPS could be a great company to work with but other than pay and benefits nobody would be there. I have confronted two of my supervisors saying if everybody got along, worked as an actual team, it would be a pleasant place to work.

The response from my on-car? "You're not supposed to like your job." UPS hires people off the street and it shows the true corporate policy. Having brain does not mend well here.

In the 1930s, Casey cut a deal with West Coast Teamster leader Dave Beck to represent UPS drivers and warehouse workers. Beck was a firm believer in “business unionism” and hostile to rank-and-file control of the unions. “Unions are big business,” Beck once declared. “Why should truck drivers and bottle washers be allowed to make big decisions affecting union policy? Would any corporation allow it?” Casey would have agreed.

That Beck guy was a smart person!

Socialism is now taken over our union. The right to vote has been stolen. No point in voting any longer

UnconTROLLed

perfection
The reason was already copy/pasted. in the eyes of Casey, the Teamsters were the lesser of evils at the time, being very conservative and did not embrace grassroots concepts. Big business facilitating big business. Nothing's changed.
