Do you work at Black River???

My on-car was a center manager once. He did the exact same thing. Even deleted a time card and paid with the guys sick day. When caught, offered $100 out of his pocket to try and smooth it over. After that was reported, it was all downhill.

Good luck, Tears.

It's apparent who ever found out before and who ever is going to find out this time isn't the right people to notify. The department of labor would solve this problem forever.

Good point. The center manager would probably back him up. I think he should try the ethics hotline.

i think at this point he should be terminated from UPS. Last time he was caught doing this, he was using a proxy, a PT supe who lost his job for listening to this guy. How many supervisors should UPS fire to protect an unethical boss?

since timecards are a good portion of my job, i can understand just how ambiguous a LOT of it it can get in terms of what is "altering" vs. fixing obvious driver/center errors.

but when one starts altering timecards to change what really happened in a day, that person unethical and can't be trusted, and really needs to be removed asap before any of those habits spread to others.

my center manager is the most straightforward and honest boss i have ever worked for (reverse opposite of my previous center manager :knockedout:)
i trust him more than i trust myself

but i never act without a backup plan, don't you worry about me, i was union long enough :wink2:

TearsInRain,

I agree with you and based upon what you have said I support your cause and admire your courage.

Are you confronting this center manager alone?

Sincerely,
I

an on-car i know personally in another building is aware; he previously worked under this guy when he was a center manager and can't stand his lack of integrity. The other two on-car's in my center are suspicious of this guy. I also told a good friend of mine in HR, we worked together for 2 years in preload.

since he came from another center, he really doesn't have any friends in this center, which almost makes me feel guilty, but i guess your quality is known among others before you ever meet them..

You can follow the Open Door Policy and speak to your center manager, thats what it for. However your are not bound to what he does. It is still within your rights to take it elsewhere if the outcome is not the right one.

Same but different. There`s a hub employee in my work area who had her scheduled off days changed to absences by a sup in a different area from the mgr who gave her the scheduled off. The mgr caught this discrepancy but it didn`t get followed up on.

Get the Union involved, if the Union by you has any stones. Just had 2 sups here change the same time card for some reason. We had copies of the original hours wprked and the altered card. Filed to get the hemeployee paid the .05 clicks they took away to get him under 12 hours on road. Those sups were escorted out of the building AS they should be. Theft if theft, dollar amount shouldnt matter. If you steal a candy bar, IPad, Lap top etc its theft.

705red,

Disagree!!!

Union chain of command and grievance process in the East has proven to be as unreliable as the UPS Help Line.

You could always call your BA to get the ball rolling.

As a part-time supervisor, the original poster is not a union member himself and therefore cannot file any sort of grievance.

He can, however, inform the hourly whose timecard was altered of what happened so that the hourly can file the grievance.

I would use the "shotgun" method of dealing with this problem; Get the union involved, call the ethics hotline, confront the crooked sup directly, and inform the crooked sup's superiors. If you spray enough lead out there, some of it is guranteed to hit the target.
