The first station a tourist sees coming into town is always 10-20 cents a gallon higher here. The locals know to avoid this price gouger but he sure gets his share of others to rape. In the winter he is competitive with the other stations but many locals (not enough) refuse to give him a dime.

Over $5.00 in downtown los angeles...

The gas and oil companies have really screwed california residents. This manipulation has gotten out of control..

I wrote months ago on this thread about the oil companies selling SURPLUS gas and oil to Mexico because california refiners ran out of storage capacity.

They sold off all the surplus, leaving demand higher than supply, causing prices to spike near a dollar a gallon overnight.

Despite Californians using less fuel year over year for 5 years now, the oil companies decided to deplete the supply to force prices upwards of $5.00 a gallon !

Mission accomplished.

Maybe now you can understand why there is a need for regulations.

The refinery that has historically produced about a fifth of Southern California's gasoline has been crippled since a February explosion — and may stay that way for months to come.

The trouble at Exxon Mobil's refinery in Torrance is a major factor pushing up regional gas prices, which have risen dramatically this month. Restoring the site to full capacity is among the best hopes for bringing prices back down, according to analysts.

The Torrance refinery currently operates at less than 20% of its capacity, said Mohsen Nazemi of the South Coast Air Quality Management District .

The average gas price in the L.A. area hit a new high for the month on Thursday at $4.30 — about 50 cents above the state average and $1.50 above the rest of the nation. On Friday, the average gas price in the L.A. area dropped a penny
