Re: Hundreds of words to avoid using online if you don't want the government spying o
OK, I'll bite:
What exactly (other than posting very large posts in this forum) did Wkmac do to stop this in 2003?
And to be honest, I do remember you saying that.
For one, I was very vocal against it rather than blindly accepting the excuse that this is only about terrorism and will only be used against the bad guys. It's proven that any power given to gov't they will always abuse to the ultimate harm of the very people in whom said gov't have charge. I also lent support to various groups as in financial in fighting such draconian measures whose purpose was to raise public support against. One such group for example was the Rutherford Institute who
opposed these measures and made great efforts especially in the so-called conservative/rightwing/christian related sphere. I focused in that realm as at that time they controlled the levers of gov't at all levels via the republican party and thus held the greatest sway as a voting block.
I also vocally urged anyone who would listen to abandon the 2 party state which except for a handful, both almost in lock step supported and voted for these draconian measures. At least the pressure, threat, fear or reality of 3rd party and independent candidates becoming supported and even elected might force some pausing on the part of gov't. Ever consider at least giving some money to a 3rd party or independent candidate just to put competition into the field to use as leverage? What do you think Ron Paul was as much about? Same as a Ralph Nader too among others. Even another BCer here with whom I often disagree on foreign policy, has served in Iraq but had the ballz and intelligence to at least leave the 2 wings of the same bird of prey and supported Chuck Baldwin who also
opposed the Patriot Act. Not suggesting this BCer did so purely on the Patriot Act and I wasn't a Baldwin supporter on other grounds but Baldwin's stance and this BCer's support of him sure as hell stood tall in my book just on pure principle. Same applies to those who voted for Ralph Nader and yet I don't agree with Ralph either on many issues but Nader was outspoken on surveillance draconian measures of which we now face and will only get worse.
What did you do to oppose it?
Ever think about all those democrats who sqwalled about Bush and his policies which once passed then berated these draconian measures for political advantage but now enhance and expand those very measures themselves. Same as the war policy they once decried yet now make Bush almost look like a 60's Peace Dove. When some of the real anti war voices on the left also openly from the position of war long for the Bush days after seeing Obama and the democrats take it to galactic heights, this should speak volumes about the socialist, communist, leftist radical who bows to anyone the President meets. He bows knowing when the time is right he will stab them in the back, send in the shock troops and take their
too! Considering all the brown people he's killed, the KKK has nothing on him. And what might the republicans who paraded and championed such ideas yet assured us no abuses would take place. What will they do once they get back power? Where is Bush and republicans who assured us (I call it lying) such measures as these would never be used against the citizenry? Listen, hear it? Yeah me neither! Why then do we believe anything changes if they get voted back in? Look at that maroon Lindsey Graham and tell me again how things change.
At the very least and is a worthwhile effort, work along local and even state political lines to solve your own local problems and issues (often simplier, far less costly and longterm more effective) and then begin to dis-entangle yourselves/ourselves from the federal web and the lack of use or need forces the invasive vine to begin to die.
Yesterday I saw news footage of drum and fife with the tri-cornered hats and of course everywhere at some point, the founding fathers and the folk who opposed british rule are always pulled into the mix and equaled to the contemporary soldier and his mission. For now I'll just let that be as I stand silently in the shadows but let me pose this question to you and to many of those soldiers of whom a growing number are waking up and starting to speak out themselves. Would those founding folk in the tri-cornered hats, if they lived in this day, how do you think they would feel about the patriot act and other such draconian measures of the state? Some of you might want to either re-evaluate your beliefs in regards to our tri-cornered ancestors or take a long look in a mirror and examine yourselves.
Also I appreciate and respect the fact that you recognized my earlier vocal opposition to the patriot act and other surveil methods of the state. Your open honesty does go a long way in my book. Appreciate it!
BTW: "If" there is such a list currently and names "are(?)" being gathering, would you think some of the things I've even said here in this forum might not have drawn some attention towards my way? Hell I openly appeal to complete abolition of the federal state by non violent means (and I'm serious too) so how much have you put your ass on the line in open opposition? And based on the words on the list, I bet I'm not alone among many here and yet you (the collective not the singular) still blindly support this monstrous leviathan!
I'm sure that's on a
ING list too!
