i had friends drive my truck the 3 blocks home from the byob hookah lounge in my neighborhood last night because i was lit.

i dont go to bars anymore because uber and lyft is too expensive on top of bar tabs.

i skip a few days of drinking when i go hard one night.

simply balancing it out and planning outings around getting home means u can still enjoy drinks and not let it ruin your life.

Friday after work I went out with a few friends. I made a poor choice and drove after drinking. In my state I lose my license for 7 days automatically. I am going to ask the court Monday for a restricted license for work during that 7 day period. After that it is returned to me until the court proceedings are over. When do I have to report the issue to my sup, and can I keep my job? I have heard that I don't need to report it until I am convicted, and That I must report it right away. What if I have a restricted license for work? I know I made a poor choice, but I have some very special people that depend on me to work. All help is greatly appreciated.
Really, you don't, for if you did, you wouldn't have driven bombed.

Section 3. Loss of License
Section 3.1 Leave of Absence

When an employee, in any job classification requiring driving, loses his or
her operating privilege or whose license has been suspended or revoked for
reasons other than those for which the employee can be discharged by the
Employer, leave shall be granted for such time as the employees operating
privilege or license had been suspended or revoked but not for a period
longer than one (1) year, provided the driver whose operating privilege or
license has been suspended or revoked notifies the employees immediate
supervisor before the employees next report to work of such suspension or
revocation. The above provision need apply only to the first (lst)
suspension or revocation except for suspension of commercial drivers license
(CDL) of one (1) year or less duration.

Employees who take a leave of absence under this Section whose loss of
operating privilege or license is the result of driving under the influence of
drugs or alcohol will be allowed alternative work and to return to their job in
accordance with Section 3.3 below.

Section 3.2 Alternate Work (Other than Alcohol/Controlled Substance)
When an employee, in any job classification requiring driving, has lost
his/her license under this Article he/she shall be afforded the opportunity to
displace junior, one (1) full-time or two (2) part-time, inside employees, until
he/she can return to his/her driving job, not to exceed one (1) year, unless
provided for otherwise in the Supplements, Riders or Addenda. The
employee shall receive the appropriate rate of pay for the job performed
based on his/her seniority. Coverage for benefits shall continue for the length
of the leave of absence or for the job duration, up to one (1) year.

Section 3.3 Alternative Work (Alcohol/Controlled Substance)
When an employee, in any job classification requiring driving, has lost
his/her license for driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled
substance he/she will be offered available inside work of one (1) full-time or
two (2) part-time openings, not to exceed one (1) year provided that the
employee is assessed by a Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) and is
released to return to work by the SAP. The SAP shall establish the terms
upon which the employee may return to work. The employee must also enter
a rehabilitation program, if required by the SAP, within one (1) month of the
SAPs assessment. The employee shall be returned to driving once he/she
successfully completes the rehabilitation program, provided his/her driving
privileges have been restored. The employee shall receive the appropriate
rate of pay for the job performed based on his/her seniority. Coverage for
benefits shall continue for the length of the leave of absence or for the job
duration, up to one (1) year.

Any driver cited for Driving Under the Influence who does not have his/her
license suspended, or who has limited driving privileges, shall be assessed by
a SAP within five (5) working days of the citation. If the SAP determines the
driver does not require rehabilitation, then he/she shall be allowed to return
to driving. Until the assessment is completed, the driver shall be allowed to
work inside in accordance with the paragraph above. If rehabilitation is
required, the above paragraph shall also be applicable. The one time right to
rehabilitation provided in Article 35, Section 4.11 shall not be applicable to a
driver who completes a rehabilitation program under this paragraph, unless,
as a result of the DUI citation, the driver is convicted or loses his/her license
for driving.

Bottom line is; you have to report your DUI to management prior to the start of your next shift. You will be asessed by a SAP (substance abuse professional) and cannot return to driving until you have completed rehab and gotten your lisence back. Until then you can still work in the hub or preload in a non-driving capacity.

This will be your last chance. Get another DUI and you will be terminated from employment at UPS. You screwed up; learn your lesson, get help if you need it, and be grateful you didnt kill anyone.
True that. Saw 2 great drivers get fired for a 2nd DUI. One was within 30 days of being eligible to retire. So sad...

you need to report that right away or you will lose your job.you can not be fired for getting a dui but you will get fired if you don't report it. you will be offered alt. work ,sometimes it is a srtaight 8 and sometimes it is a split shift half preload half twi. it all depends on your building but please report it as soon as possible.
Usually, they make you go to a rehab program first before they let you work even inside. They call it an SAP substance abuse professional. Even if you are found not guilty, you have to complete the program

I agree but the Contract says that anyone cited for a DUI has to seen by an SAP (substance abuse professional) within 5 days of the ticket. It also says you have to notify your supervisor at your next report date. The contract as written assumes that you are guilty without even going to court yet.
We had a package driver that got a DUI and went to an SAP and was put on a 5 year program. Everyone seems to get a 5 year program if you go to the UPS SAP because they get paid for 5 years. He got a test one morning before his court date and had a slight blood alcohol raise. Something like .02% which doesn't even prohibit a driver from driving, but the program said he was required to have a 0% at all times. He got fired. a month later, he went to court and the DUI was thrown out but he was still fired because he violated a program. BUll crap but it cost him.
