we have a 77 year old driver who gets his pension and gets raises every year. plus he gets social security. plus he makes over 2 grand a week.

I asked him if he has a good tax guy. also asked him if he was crazy.

it must be some kinda sickness.
It's all those ensures he drinks that keeps him young.

Here in the Charlotte guys who retired a month ago have been asked to come back for peak to run their same run, draw a full pension, and get their top pay with 50+ hr pay checks. All with zero liability. They can pretty much do whatever they want without fear of being fired... Hence they are retired. Sign me up... I would have a field day. Sounds like that we are ready campaign is a bunch of smoke and mirrors if your asking retirees to get off the couch.

Better then the alternative. I guess I enjoy working either for myself or being paid. Seen to many guys quit working and die because they no longer have a reason to get out of bed in the morning.
When I stop working I'll have a reason to get out of bed. Now I'm forced to against my will.

Sometimes their only reason to get out of bed is to go buy more booze. Sad but true.

I live just up the street from a Mom and Pop store that is known for selling the cheapest beer in town. Every morning this guy who lives in a nearby trailer park either walks or rides his bike down to the store to pick up 3 40's. He goes back in the afternoon and then later on in the evening. There are two other guys who walk down to the store every night to pick up a 12 pack each. Sad.

Sad?? No nagging wife. Drink alcohol all day. Watch sports or porn.

Ive heard rumors that it is possible to collect your pension while continuing to work for UPS. Is this at all true?
I'm in the Western Conference Joint Council 37. We can't retire, collect our pension, and work in the industry more than (I think) 40 hours a month. Any job you get after retirement you need a letter from the union giving you the OK, or you risk having your pension suspended.
Once you turn 65 those rules no longer apply. We have drivers that collect their pension at 65, continue working, continue increasing their pension every 750 hours they work, start collecting Social Security at their full retirement age, 66 to 67 (you get taxed on 85% of your SSA earnings, but you don't lose any benefits). The last guy I asked between his pension, pay check, his SSA, his wife's SSA (she had no pension), made $195,000 in 2013.
I'm 58, worked here 36 years. I think age 60 will be enough, we've saved pretty well. Health care is the scary thing. I don't have a problem with the double and triple dippers. I don't know their financial problems.

I know a driver who is 72, still working fulltime, collecting his full pension, and collecting his full
social security. I ask him why and he says Medicare isn't that good and he wants to keep his health
benefits. I really don't get it.
