Rules And Decorum At Browncafe

I am a recently retired UPSer, and just started posting on this site. I've lurked for a long time, but never felt that I would be safe posting while still employed.

I'm primarily interested in Politics, and gravitated to this forum. I see that some members can post personal insults towards others with no consequences.

I just got negative feedback and a comment from Tieguy. He left this comment:
I think you should build a little credibility here before you decide to start attacking people.

He left this regarding a post I made where he questioned the loyalty of the President of the United States:

I am sure you are familiar with the oft repeated wisdom of not talking about politics or religion with mixed company .

If you decide to jump into the fray, you have to be prepared to expect the passionate responses that will surely be elicited.

My suggestion is to grow a thicker skin and have fun with the verbal warfare.

If that fails, simply put those who make your skin crawl on your ignore list .

If you had been lurking very long, you would know that tieguy thinks we pick on him and that we let other people like soberups get away with murder.

tieguy is adept at walking right up to that line without stepping over it in terms of civility. You notice he did not call anyone an idiot ... just that if needed an idiotic comment, he knew who to ask.

We've had many a discussion with tieguy about this inappropriate behavior and he behaves for a while but then reverts back to these shameful displays(although somewhat hidden from the light of the day because he did it in a reputation comment) Perhaps another intervention is needed.

if you read thru the enormous number of posts TIEGUY makes, you will see a pattern of re-used insults as his material is weak as a used tea-bag.

If you view TIEGUY like an empty sandwich, you cant be offended.

I'm friends with most moderators here. Overall I think they have done their darnest to be fair. I never cease to be amazed that you on the other hand have taken your role into a completely different dimension as evidenced by this post.

Honestly if you wish to make posts like this one then I think you should step down as a moderator.

I am sure that this is not news to some of the "regular" posters --particularly in the Current Events section.
Politics has become a contact sport --in the real world --not necessarily here in the cafe.
I see very passionate and thoughtful posts daily --with a good blend of "tongue and cheek"
If you feel that someone has offended you ---I would suggest some private messages between you to clear the air.
I believe overall the moderators do a good job --but if they had to delete or reprimand everything that could be "taken" as a personal attack ----we would have very few posts or people in the cafe . Smile and move on.
I have obvoiusly disagreed with some posts aimed in my direction --I have done as I stated above --and just moved on .
I love a free flow discussion from many different backrounds and viewpoints --with a large dose of humour and a pinch of sarcasm !!!
