Beat on earnings 3.18 vs 2.82 est. Missed on revenues 22.8 vs 23.7 est. Kind of a mixed bag. Did express concerns about the path Express is taking in terms of revenues.

Doesn’t make much difference when Amazon is slowly putting our customers out of business. We used to do multiple trailer swaps for Target every peak. This Dec…. None. We used to pickup quite a bit of wal-mart. This Dec…. None. They don’t have to be a direct shipping competitor to be a problem. They’re a competitor for our customers.

Express operating income -64% from the same period last year while Ground +24% and Freight +32%. Apparently Fat Freddy found somebody cheaper that being Ground to haul his junk. It's all now just a question of long he can get away with it.

Express problems mainly come from a bloated management and very costly changes to the system that didn't work. Response and Estar will end up costing the company $billions and total failures but you won't see that in an earnings call.

Information from a year ago is what matters, the estimated vs actual is always a game played by companies. Express operating income is always helped by Express Freight so without that the result for Express small package would be even worse.

In after hours trading the stock recouped it's losses following earnings results. Apparently somebody must think that the worst is behind the company. Only time will tell.
