The UPS Foundation Funds Critical UN Relief Shipments to Aid in Global Syrian Refugee Crisis

The UPS Foundation, the philanthropic arm of UPS® (NYSE: UPS) is working with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the World Food Programme (WFP) to provide critical relief shipments to thousands of refugees in Greece and along the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia border. Air shipments of 163 metric tons of relief supplies, including 86 tons of high-energy biscuits, 30,000 blankets, 25,000 sleeping mats and 1,000 solar lanterns arrived on Sept. 5. The flights were funded by The UPS Foundation as part of its UPS Humanitarian Relief and Resilience program.

Purchase Paves the Way for Next Generation Vehicles

UPS (NYSE:UPS) today announced it has purchased 125 new technology hybrid electric delivery trucks, as part of a broader program to deploy electric-powered vehicles with greater range and performance.

The new trucks will deliver significant fuel economy equivalency gains – up to four times the fuel economy of a gasoline powered vehicle, compared to a 10 to 15% improvement with previous hybrid designs. They will be deployed in Arizona, Texas, Nevada, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and Florida the first half of 2016.

MIT CTL and UPS Support Solar Electric Car Project

Vehicle sustains 60 mph using the same energy as a hairdryer

The MIT Center for Transportation & Logistics (MIT CTL) is sponsoring a project to race a new solar electric car called Arcturus in the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge, Australia, in October. The vehicle is designed and built by a team of students at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

MIT CTL Supply Chain Exchange Partner UPS is also sponsoring the student team by transporting the 490-pound vehicle to Australia.

The 3,000-km trek across the Australian Outback is one of the world’s premier events for promoting the development of solar powered vehicles. Each Challenge moves solar car design closer to commercialization.
