‘We can’t improve a woman’s standard of living if we can’t improve a woman’s chance of living.’

The only way women are going to advance in the global economy is by having income, which means work.

But according to United Nations studies, only about half of the world’s women participate in the labor force. Despite their under-representation, women comprise 60 percent of the world’s working poor. What’s more, a 2014 World Bank report shows that, on average, women earn 10 to 30 percent less than men for comparable work.

Awards program honors global companies for leadership through recycling, transportation safety initiatives

UPS (NYSE: UPS) has been recognized with a 2015 Eco-Friendly Award from the Alpine Group, LLC, an Idaho-based transportation asset management company.

UPS was recognized for collecting and moving more than 4.3 million pounds of recycling in 2014. The Eco-Friendly Awards program evaluation criteria also awarded extra merit for transportation safety awareness and in keeping America’s roads a safer place to travel.

The Roermond facility, which is scheduled to be completed in January 2016, is part of UPS’s ongoing growth plan in Europe. With its close proximity to UPS’s European air hub at Cologne/Bonn airport in Germany, it allows for short transit times, including next-day and two-day service, to global destinations. Up to 200 jobs will be created once the facility is fully operational.
