22.4 Driver Hire

I’ve been a M-friend Seasonal package car driver for 2 months making $21 a hour. Our Hub is going Tues-Sat starting in a few weeks. The Bid sheet went up last week and nobody signed for it. I was told a few seasonals will get the spot. Hoping to get it myself. Was hoping for M-friend gig but I’ll take the 22.4 to get my foot in the door.
I was wondering what the pay is and top rate pay in 4 years is. Is the pay difference between RCPD and 22.4 a few dollars different. I can’t seem to find any info . I would like to know what I would be making in the next few years. Also would I still have to do 30 days? I would like to know when I’m in the union also ? Thanks for any info

22.4 is the same job as rpcd for less money and no protections. Dont do it.

you have to understand the different contracts drivers work under. its very tedious and confusing and they count-on you being absolutely clueless about it. collective bargaining agreements are not exclusive to ups and are very dense, like almost a constitution dense. So you have to try to wrapyour head around it.

Going from 22.4 to full time is increasingly becoming a myth. The company wants to use 22.4 a few years, rinse and repeat. In the first 30 days, unless your center manager "likes you" and u dont hit anything u will then be "secure".

Most supervisors wont demonstrate to you or test you on how to actually be safe, such as: tightening your handbrake, curbing wheels, double checking truck on slopes and hills, etc. ask other drivers to show you their pretrip and methods. when ur on your on roads with a sup specifically ask them to demonstrate all parking methods.

good luck.

bring a large dedicated pee jug. and dollars / change for cups of ice in the heat. for a few bucks
leas try amazon, smaller vans, a/c. Not as good long term but ups is brutal for $20.50 hourly without any upward trajectory for years. the brutality and careless management and insane huge heavy items at apartments especially just isnt worth it imo.

it will be your life, its not a job its a life. study coding something in tech. then work for ups.

Usually, once you clear your 30-day qualification you can become a union member. You will most likely have to qualify as a FT employee, but things are different all over. It all depends on where you are. If you're young, 22.4 will be a good long-term move, but be ready for 50+ hours every week for the next few years. Literally EVERY week. Good luck.

What state are you in? I've never heard of a seasonal being allowed to sign a bid sheet.

50 hour weeks are gravy if its not 6 days. but having to work preload when its slow is not cool- but i loathe preload, you might not mind it. on the upside you dont have to work inside if ur qualified. other thing ive learned on here is never ask how many days until you qualify. say nothing , do your best, take hour lunches work 30min of them, learn how to sort truck, get there early sort truck for free. day 30-31 comes - ur in if they dont say anything. have you worked preload?

Why are you giving me advice? I'm a FT package car driver. Don't you have applications to fill out?

i drove for 10 weeks. worked there july-may. read on here daily. I see ups trucks everywhere without curbed wheels everyday. i guess making mistakes and gaining experience isn't as important to ups as tossing people out like trash.

now you’re starting to catch on

Top rate for a RPCD is about $6 more than a 22.4 driver.

I agree. I don’t even know if I’ll make it to top pay as RPCD. My body is breaking down fast. I keep asking myself what’s the point of $40/hr if I’m gonna be delivering with a cane lol

i saw on here take glucosamine and fish oil. i was going to do it a few years to save. i know the insurance is hard to part with but it has to be excellent to keep you alive.
