Who cares,if they don't pay you a sick day you'll still get it as unused sick time after the fiscal year.
So if you didn't take any sick days besides this non-doctors note one,you'll still get paid for 5 unused sick days.
All it becomes is an unexcused absence.
With no more reviews holding attendance over your head it really doesn't matter.

Welcome back. I always time my sick calls for maximum operational disruptions, as in when they are especially short on people or some other situation where it will hurt them the most. Yeah, I know that makes me an A-hole, but too effing bad.
