Biden better start pumping all that new Alaska oil soon.
He'll need it to replace all the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR), he has sold off.
It's being replaced as contracts for replacement oil have already been released. What is happening is that in recent years output from ageing wells that supply the Alaskan oil pipeline have been slowly declining. The Willow project is being seen as replacement for that declining production . Haven't heard if it will be transported by tanker or tied into the pipeline. It will however take at least a decade to bring production into the market. By that time EV could begin to impact the demand for oil.

In the meantime Conoco Phillips is being give an opportunity to actually prove that it can meet the environmental goals they claim they can meet.

Long standing state and federal environment laws. Don't forget .Exxon Valdez was at least at that time the worst environmental disaster on US soil in US History.
And what and who was the driver of the first real environmental protection legislation? The 1969 Unical oil blowout and the fact that it saturated the Santa Barbara coastline. Home of no other than Richard Milhouse Nixon. You don't drown Tricky Dick's beach with crude oil and get away with it.

Drill/No Drill in that area is a battle that has been going on for what....30 years?
Now let's look at industry data.
During the years 2007-2014 US drillers spent an average of 79 billion a year on new source exploration .
The result? Big glut of cheap oil which some of you guys appear to be addicted to.
As a result drilling activity slowed to a near stop while the industry adopted better supply management practices .
Drilling activity for the years 2023-2027 projected to average 22-23 billion a year. Not much and not back to previous record highs but an improvement that would indicate a return to more market not political but market driven exploration.
Primary areas to be explored....Africa and the Mediterranean. That much to an extent is political. Get in there and get control over whatever is there before Putin gets in there.

Why would Putin "get in there?" More likely the Chinese. And why should our companies be exploring and drilling elsewhere instead of doing the same in the U.S.?
