Yep, all corporate cards frozen, no travel expenses, less packages going to post office for surepost. Its definitely "chip in so we can have TP" time again. If a sup has to shuttle a misload to a driver, he is to use a package car instead of their own person vehicle as there are no mileage reimbursements.

I could go on, but evidently times are tough again.

And we've even been told starting in April, no more time wasting PCMs

Do you guys have any unnecessary part time supervisors who want an extra day off next week (before the quarter ends) at the cost of their 27.5 guarantee? What about slower top rate drivers who can be encouraged to go home with a layoff?

Not that the company would actively be doing any of these things. This post is purely sarcastic, and not in any way an indication of how the company might be trying to save money.

If we can hold off enough necessary recurring purchases (e.g. paper) until Q2 in addition to other things that either barely matter in terms of expenses or actually hurt us long term, Q1 will surely look fantastic. And Q2 will look great when we follow the same playbook. It worked in Q4-18, right? And we need another historic dividend later this year to top February's $0.96/share.

I’ve heard rumors that this will be the normal operating policy til 2021. Labor and infrastructure costs are trending towards our profit line and won’t be projected to separate til about then. I’m just a dumb package driver so maybe I heard wrong?

You’re not wrong, but increased CAPEX was planned, so it shouldn’t be as drastic as they’re making it.

Big part is just being down volume in a lot of places. We have hubs in the district that are down 30% YOY. Most aren’t that extreme. But the hits are big enough to where it throws off the rest of the district.

Retirement is VASTLY underrated
The company lost a little bit of it's soul when it started submitting to quarterly rectal exams from Wall Street analysts. UPS "says" it wants to invest in long-term infrastructure, but it still goes short-term crazy around the quarterly earnings announcement. This is a death spiral...

We literally have what I call "mobile punch-out stations" at my hub. Useless part-time supervisors that are not given anything productive to do (meaning they don't "supervise" a metro and do all the hourly work on it) who run around with laptops telling people to punch out. Ridiculous how useless the part-time supervisors truly are. If they aren't doing hourly work, they aren't doing anything useful. There's been a recent building/shift merger in my area, so there is a huge surplus of hourlies and part-time supervisors. If upper management had a working brain they'd know that the best way to cut the fat is to fire half of the part-time supervisors, because 99.9% of them are completely useless except for getting me paid for supervisors working grievances anyways.

You make a very good point regarding part time supervisors. The value they provide, as well as the things they're actually responsible for, is all over the place. Some provide negative net value. Some provide tremendous value. Some can barely perform the most simple tasks with a LOT of hand-holding. Some are on the same level as FT supervisors (using "FT supervisors" as an average...since there are definitely some iffy FT supervisors in the competence department).

The company could gain considerably, IMO, if we eliminated and replaced (as necessary) PT supervisors providing low (and especially negative) net values. Realistically, the company might also want to look into different pay grades for PT supervisors (and realistically, that probably includes a grade below out new minimum, as well as one or two above), and/or have the highly competent PT supervisors as "part time specialists".

Maybe how the company uses part time supervisors is something that the transformation team can address and actually improve? LOL.

I'd say that's actually a great idea, but what do I know, I'm a part-time box monkey...

You're right that A LOT of part-time supervisors provide a NEGATIVE net value. Like I said, the vast majority of them are only good for making me money. I'm the pick on the metro I work on and today the first two hours of flow were INSANE, and in the meantime a load area was trashed (backed up all the way to me) within 30 minutes of the shift starting (it's easily the heaviest area on the metro). The loader there is a beast and just barely keeps up with the flow, but didn't show up today. There were THREE supervisors working that load area to hold it down, two part-time and one full-time.

In the meantime I was trash-talking them (in the middle of picking heavy volume accurately, I'm good at multi-tasking) about how all they're good for is making me money and asking how many supervisors it takes to load a load area...while the same supervisors give loaders crap about wrapping up on time when THREE supervisors can't even hold the area down...ridiculous. I probably made about $300 between those 3 supervisors working grievances today...and that's more than both part-time supervisors were paid for the day AND more than I made for the day combined! Talk about inefficiency...

I've said it before and I'll say it again. :)

Welcome to UPS boys and girls. You mean nothing to this company and your eyes are now open. If this were the union forum you'd be called cry babies and told to find a new job if it's so bad.

Oh waaahhh! The company is making our lives so hard. Let's go complain about it in our heated office where our swivel chairs are. ;)
