I pulled my Investment file out and will go through it tonight.
If you are not in the market right now ... I understand your angst.
I don't try to time the market ... no one has been successful at it ... many have lost fortunes trying to do so.
I always 'dollar cost average' when I move on a stock or sector.
- Funds are different since they usually have a $50k minimum.
I move out of stocks or funds without using DCA.
I would actually do this for fun. I enjoyed getting in and out, making .30-.50 at times on a stock. I understanding what you're saying about timing. I did it for the fun of it. I think I'm getting old. Not having fun, so much now. Frustrated! I've got a hand gesture for the market now;

I lost $250k on REITs in 2007 and 2008 ... I'm very wary.
I did get about 400% ROI on 3 home builder stocks from 2002 - 2006.
I wish I had invested my REITs in those stocks.

REITs were the fad for a while but I never invested in any and glad about that.

Stings like that can stay with you for almost, EVER! I rode Wamu down. All the way down. About 100K. WHO COULD'VE SEEN THEM GOING ALL THEY WAY DOWN???? I still don't use stops. Stubborn or stupid? I don't need an answer. I guess we all know what's coming for WAMU !

My advisor in 2008-09 told me I lost less percentage wise than most people. I guess that was suppose to make me feel better.
