Go to the local police department and ask them about serving whoever it was with some paperwork for bouncing checks. You have to fill out some stuff about the situation and then the nice police man serves whoever it is. Its a criminal offense, they pay or go to jail. I'm serious, we just started doing this in my center and we are 2 for 2 on collecting.
Bouncing cheques isn't a crime. Intentionally passing bad cheques, however, is.

Remember that this was a corporation which passed the bad cheque too, making things a tad bit more complex.

checks. The employee shall not be held liable for restitution or disciplined if
he/she accepts an irregular check if a reasonable person would have accepted
the check. No employee shall be subject to restitution or discipline unless the
Employer brings the bad check to the employee’s attention within fifteen {15}
business days after receiving a written shipper notice of claim...
