Customer Counter Experiences?

We haven't had drugs. Guns are the bigger issue. People don't do it to ship a handgun to their gang member brother, but to ship it to where they are going hunting or to a family member.

I always love when they say "Oh I don't have a tracking number, but it should be in a box about this size" then use their hands to show the approximate size. Ummm, yeah I need more than that.

When everybody came back we had all the drivers bring in the iPhone boxes. Kept them all in the office stacked by last name. Made the night go so much better, but we still had a line 50 people deep. Which is twice what we normally do in a whole day at the counter.
They also don't want to pay next day air charges for shipping a hand gun

Today I had a package to RTS .
So I went over to the last counter I worked at .
The current clerk is retiring in July .
And the OMS asked if I would be coming back , sadly I had to tell them NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

The ones who proclaim they are a stockholder, and they are important, so we should get them their item, or they will sell their stock.

We usually get the "My brother/sister/father/uncle in law is the VICE PRESIDENT OF GROUND OPERATIONS, SO YOU HAVE TO DO WHAT I SAY!!!"

Amazing how everyone seems to be related to this person in a position I never even knew existed...

The niece of our CEO back in the early 2000's used to come in a lot and throw her uncle's status in our faces .
We never acknowledge her , basically no one working there gave a darn .

I love the ones who scream that they are going to get me fired .
Or better yet the ones who scream that they are never going to use UPS again , ya like they have control over who their shipper will use .
So many clueless spoiled children .

Had one guy come in to complain , and informed us that by law UPS is not allowed to ship his packages. Evidently he was under the impression that he had gotten a restraining order baring UPS from moving the progress of his packages, another guy as he was stomping out screamed he was going to file a " non cooperation " lawsuit on us because we didn't leave his package at the door.
I also love it when they come in to inform us they have real job and want to know why we allow drivers to attempt to deliver to them while they are at work.

The ones who want to go into the hub and get their package themselves.
Shipper puts wrong address on the label, they scream at us for not sending it to the right address.
They want to speak to the Boss, not some minimum wage clerk. (If they only knew how much we really make per hour)

Once had to physical throw a kid out of the counter .
The punk was abusive to other clerks his problem was that " we " rts his package .
He lived in a shared apt , without his name listed on the mailbox , but posted on the door on the third floor . The reason I got ticked off by him , he was in the wrong building ( his building was 20 miles south of us ) and he wanted us to pay for his cab fare .

Whenever they drop that I always say "No way! Small world. What's his name?"

Usually does the trick.

Reminds me of this woman that was down here on vacation staying in a travel trailer park.

Driving the opposide direction, stops me in the middle of the road, and flashes some crusty looking employee ID waving it around like I'm supposed to know or care what it is.

"HEY HEY IT'S ME IT'S ME YOU HAVE SOMETHING FOR ME!"

"oh, do I?"

"Yes! But it's not being sent to my name."

Ugggghhhhh.... YOU PEOPLE KNOW BETTER THAN THAT.

Some college kid thought it would be hilarious to have wine shipped to himself under the name "Master Bates." He wasn't laughing when we wouldn't release it to him and it ended up getting RTS'd.

There was a guy who came in to our building during peak and shipped 50 or 60 big boxes to his best customers as gifts. The first year he did it, and we asked him what the contents were, he told us cheese. They shipped out, no problem. The next year he came in about the same time. This time he said the packages contained "peanuts". I saw him back by our dumpster in the back of our building and asked him what was up. He told me a couple of the boxes came off his flatbed on his way there and got damaged. He paid for his packages to ship and left. Later I went out to throw some stuff in the dumpster and was overwhelmed by the smell of alcohol.. He had indeed damaged a couple of his boxes, but they were bottles of high dollar scotch. We called him up and made him come back and get all his boxes since we couldn't ship alcohol. He was pist. Don't know how many years he had gotten away with it.

I had an interesting experience as a customer.

A couple of peaks ago I ordered a gift for a relative and it got shipped UPS Ground. Not really a big deal to me because the depot is in the same city I live in. It gets attempted and a note left on my building's door (I live in a secured apartment building). I call the automated line thing to have it held at the depot to pickup so the driver doesn't have to waste any more of their time. I get a call a few hours later from a gent (supervisor?) confirming my request and saying the box should be available later that night.

I drive over to the depot at the appointed time. At this point, there are a bunch of delivery trucks all over the place, personal cars leaving, etc. I get out of my car and walk to the entrance and am somewhat confused because the door is sort of propped open but the lights are out inside. I go in anyway (door said customer service entrance) and use my phone as a flashlight to see in the dark. All doors inside are locked, nobody around, no one answers when I call out. wtf

I go back outside and the door clicks behind me. :censored2:! Door is now locked. At this point I'm about to get my notice and call the number when someone (employee?) drives by and tells me that the service counter is closed/points out another door (sign reads Authorized Personnel Only). She tells me to go in there. I walk over to the door and try the buzzer. Nothing happens, no indication that it even works. Door is unlocked so I go inside. I'm now in the warehouse section of the building with conveyer belts, miscellaneous packages strewn about, people meandering around. Drivers in uniform, package handlers (?, street clothes), clerks/supervisors (dressed business casual). They acknowledge my presence but otherwise couldn't care less that a stranger is wandering the warehouse. I laugh as I see someone use a cart to transport some beat to hell and haphazardly taped back together boxes to another part of the warehouse; if it weren't for the trucks and the uniforms, I'd guess I was in another Fedex station.

I finally come across what appears to be a dispatch office or something and walk in. A few drivers are milling about along with some office personnel. Again, no one seems to care that I'm there until I start talking to them. They do locate my package quickly and a I produce my Fedex employee ID as proof of identity (they are amused by this). I chat with them a bit about peak season, Happy holidays are exchanged, and I escort myself out of the station the same way I entered.
