PORTLAND, Maine — A man who participated in the Occupy Maine protest in Portland has been sentenced to a year in prison for hitting another protester in the head with a hatchet.

Christopher Schisler was sentenced to 8 ½ years in prison, with all but one year suspended, after pleading guilty Wednesday to aggravated assault. A criminal mischief charge was dismissed.

Authorities say the dispute in Lincoln Park started when Alan Porter began banging a drum around 7 a.m. on Nov. 18 to wake up fellow campers. The 35-year-old Schisler broke the drum with a hatchet, Porter threw the drum at Schisler, who hit Porter with the blunt side of the hatchet. Schisler’s attorney says his client is remorseful.

(NBC Bay Area) — More overnight violence at an Occupy San Francisco encampment leaves one man recovering from a stab wound.

It happened near the Federal Reserve Bank on Market Street in the Financial District just after 11:30 Monday night. Police found a man suffering from a stab wound to his neck. Investigators say he was arguing with the suspect over an undisclosed issue before the attack.

The 27-year old victim was taken to San Francisco General Hospital, and is being treated for non-life threatening injuries. The suspect fled the scene before police arrived.

This latest round of violence comes a day after another stabbing at the same location on Sunday night. A 28-year old man is still in critical condition after being attacked. Police are also searching for the suspect.

(NYDN) — Two Occupy Wall Street protesters were collared Thursday for vandalizing subways — a day after a local TV news station recorded the crime, cops said.

Jeffrey Brewer, 34, and Aaron Minter, 40, spoke to NY1 News on Wednesday and allowed a news team to follow them as they placed decals on a subway car seats, cops said.

The stickers read: “Priority Seating for the 1%.”

After receiving a complaint about the underground shenannigans, police watched the news segment when it aired on TV, cops said.

“We want a decent train service and with that kind of money in the bank, why are the rates rising?” Minter told the station. “And why are services being cut?”
Investigators determined that the vandalism took place about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday aboard a northbound 4 train in lower Manhattan, sources said.

Minter — who has prior arrests for burglary and menacing — gave the TV station a fictitious last name, Black. But cops used the footage to track down the two vandals anyway, police said.
“We had their pictures and their ID,” a police source said.

Cops found the two men at Union Square Park about 11:15 p.m. Thursday. They were taken into custody and charged with criminal mischief, making graffiti and possession of graffiti instruments, police said.
