has anyone had issues collecting unemployment after being laid off as a casual driver?

I was just let go after peak season and I just applied for unemployment benefits. I was hired as a casual driver back in late August. Is there a chance my unemployment could get denied? if so, what could be the reason?

The layoffs have been so bad this year, even out DM has filed for unemployment
Thanks. I was let go last week and I keep in touch with one of the drivers who has been there for 30 years. He just told me they hired a few new drivers. I'm completely baffled. All I know is I left on good terms and they told me they would stay touch. i'm not getting my hopes up that they'll call me back, but we'll see.

In most locals the company has to follow a set hiring process.

In these parts, for every 5 positions its 3 inside employees, 1 management employee, 1 outside/off-the-street hire. It may be different where you are though.

If I were in your position I'd forget that UPS even exists and start applying elsewhere.

What supplement has better language than the National ?

Section 4. (a)

"Part-time employees shall be given the opportunity to fill full-time jobs before hiring from the outside on a six for-one basis (six (6) part-time to every one (1) outside hire)."

I think 177 has a provision for promoting PT to FT mgmt. Not 100% on it though. Have to check my book.

I took a quick look at the Local 177 supplement, and didn't see anything.

My only reason for questioning it;

A PT supe going FT has always been considered an "outside" hire.

They used to be required to do 90 days in pkg, to be promoted to FT.

(AKA 90 day wonder) That doesn't seem to be the case anymore.

Funniest part used to be.... when they stayed a full-time pkg driver.

:biggrin:

No! Just make sure you list that you were layed off! Not terminated or quit!
