Hey PTers -- Summer's Here and You Stink!

Family Leave Fridays!!!
I'm surprised at some of the responses defending people who stink. Yes, I'm aware some people have legit health problems that prevent them from controlling bodily odors. But I'm not referring to them. I'm referring to the people who wear the same clothes -- even the same underwear -- day after day after day, sometime week after week -- without washing them. I'm referring to the people who come to work in the sweltering, humid summer with no deodorant / anti-perspirant. I'm referring to the people that go potty, don't wipe themselves & then the smell lingers through the air.

If this is you, I'm sorry. But this is a job in which you report to alongside others. You're required to take care of your hygiene, not necessarily because of unpleasant odors but also because it creates legit health hazardous to the folks around you. If you live in a trailer park and trek out of the house once a month to redeem you food stamps at Walmart, fine. But not here at work.

.

I'm surprised that so many people smell. Isn't it just common sense that once your like 10-12 years old to take a shower, put on deodorant & clean clothes??

That’s Craptacular
Well I was defending working hard and smelling of sweat. But not showering and wearing the same filthy unwashed clothes everyday is just beyond disgusting...what, are we friggin vagrants? Although, i work next to a loader, who for some reason, every so often during the shift he literally spits on his hands and rubs them together, i guess he thinks it removes the dirt? Nasty.

This reminds me of a guy who used to work in the same area as me. This stunk up to high heaven. It was small sort, so no real excuse for stinking so much. It was so bad, you literally smell him before you saw him (no joke). He would bounce from area to area, because everywhere he worked people would complain. One time I bumped into him, and I literally could smell him on me, had to take a bird bath in the bathroom.

Just use common sense. Shower everyday before work, use anti antiperspirant deodorant (the stuff with the active ingredient), floss, and brush you teeth x2 a day.

That is a jock trick for for obtaining more grip on a football/basketball. Coaches actually teach this (not actual spitting on the hand, just a quick lick of the fingertips) and I have done it many times playing both sports. Quick swiping some sweat from your jersey does the trick as well.

Still, disgusting to think that someone's saliva is all over the cardboard at work isn't it? All he really needs is a good pair of grip gloves.

I knew a guy like that in the Army. He was a total gym rat. By far the stinkiest dude I've ever met to this day...and we all called him Slider.

Ooh man, 2 things come to mind for this guy spitting on his hands. First has he ever heard of hand soap and water. When these 2 are combined they are quite effective for getting the dirt off the hands. Second, and oh boy, after this guy spit on his hands, by any chance did he disappear for 1 to 2 minutes? Maybe he was in a hurry to rub one out?? Just sayin'....

Sometimes (when I remember to bring them) I wear work gloves. Helps keep hands clean and allows you to grip the boxes much easier.

I find that no matter how much I wash my hands with soap and water, the "UPS grime" lingers for days.

With the weather heating up, I'd like to provide some friendly reminders to my fellow PT employees. With trailers heating up to a scorching 120 degrees in many locations...

-- Please ensure that you're wearing anti-perspirant. You stink. We can smell you. And AXE Body Spray is NOT an anti-perspirant. You know what's worse than working alongside somebody reeking of B.O.? Working alongside somebody reeking of B.O. and AXE Body Spray. You have no excuses. You can get a stick for a buck (Dollar Tree, 99c Only) and it'll last you all summer.

-- Please put on clean clothing at least every other day. I see guys dripping in sweat so badly they ring their shirts out... then wear them EVERY SINGLE DAY that week without washing them. The stench is so bad I feel like turning to nasal irrigation. You can get decent work clothing at Salvation Army & Goodwill for cheap when they run sales. Again, no excuses!!

-- And finally... PULL YOUR PANTS UP. You're not a rapper, you're not a gangsta, and nobody wants to see your big hairy butt crack. You do realize you primarily work around other dudes? Then again, wasn't the origin of "sagging" ...

Ann Landers has spoken. Just didn't realize she thought that all people who shop at Wal-mart stink, live in a trailer and are on welfare.

Ever been to a Super Wal-mart? You just described the one out in Allegany County, Maryland pretty accurately.... Shoot, the two regular Wal-marts I live around too.

Hell, I'd be willing to bet every Wal-mart in the nation fits at least 2 of those 3 criteria.

I read the link to the other thread - and as a wife and mother of guys who work hard and who have been actively involved in several sports, let me give my experience in this "smelly" thing. It is possible that "body odor" is not the problem - if a person is using good hygiene.

If you have clothing that get wet with sweat and then is wadded up and thrown in the dirty clothes hamper you will have a problem with those clothes even after they are washed. When you wear them and then begin to sweat - there is an unbelievable odor that can emerge from your clothing - but people think it is body odor - even with proper hygiene. If the clothing is white, I use bleach - if it isn't white - I always use vinegar in the wash with arm & hammer liquid laundry detergent. Once that smell gets into clothing, and it goes through the dryer - it is "set". It may take several washings with vinegar to get that smell out - but eventually it will come out. Then continue to use vinegar in each load.

Where do you live bro? June through August I'm sweating from walking through the parking lot to get into the building. When its 100 degrees outside with 90+ humidity you're sweating standing still in the shade. 3 hours loading feeders (the metal solar oven I work in) and I'm soaked to my knees in sweat. If you're not sweating you're dehydrated and facing heat exhaustion.

On the other hand, I don't feel like I'm even off of work until I get out of the shower. I wash my work clothes separate to keep the stink of UPS off my casual clothes. If you're not showering everyday thats just nasty.
Some people wear basketball practice jerseys because everything washes out from that kind of fabric more easily they say. Also, being mesh and basically a tank top doesn't doesn't hurt in the heat too.

I don't stink i dont wear Axe. . I wear John Varatos Midnight and Chanel Blue.

you know if you're a driver and wear cologne, you have to rollup the short sleeves at least 2 times AND wear 1 size too small shorts. If you are going for the win then sporting a toothpick between your lips is required...;bonus points if your name is Rico, or Tommy
Don't forget a nice luscious porn stache!!!
