UPS Bargaining Opens

Big Issues Not on the Table Yet
November 4, 2006. Will the present International Union leadership fight for a good contract at UPS?

One bad sign is that they are already keeping contract information secret from the members. At the October contract proposal meeting they wouldn’t even let local officers leave with copies of the union’s proposals, which they promptly handed to management.
Fortunately, TDU has obtained copies of the both the union and employer non-monetary bargaining proposals.

Thousands of Teamsters are voting each day. The Election Supervisor has received 268,850 ballots.
We have just three more days to boost turnout for Leedham.
Ballots mailed Thursday from the West Coast or Friday from most of the USA should make it by Tuesday, November 14.

rhider,
I also have had somewhat of a problem with reading them. The problem must be site related. I was unable to download all of the files.

tieguy,I assume, you are in management. It should come as no surprise to you, that UPS eats it's own. I don't like to comment on things I don't know much about, but as for this APWA, they sound like quite the PAPER TIGER. If like TDU, they make the IBT tow the line, then good for them.

If that was the answer what a glorious world it would be. Sadly as I read through these threads I see the same old world rhetoric and old fashioned bull**** that you folks do not need.

Kind of like the last elections . Candidates did not run on clear cut policy differences. Candidates ran on the principles that they were not George Bush and that they were against the war. The impresson is they would somehow make things better by being against.

And thus you have the teamster elections. Rife with campaigns running on the concept of anti Hoffa and anti bad pension plans.

To be against Hoffa and to be against bad pensions does not provide you with the right answers to fix the problems.

As a management person here I have no agenda except to be anti BS. I could care less which union you select it does not affect me. What does affect me is seeing people I have worked with potentially get screwed out of their hard earned rewards. If you want to step up and start your own union then go for it. But when you do look your potential members in the eye and give them detailed concrete no BS solutions that you will implement.

Don't waste our time by posting BS about UPS campaigning for Hoffa. Don't waste our time alleging secret negotiations with Hoffa. Clear the lump in your throat and tells us what you personally can do to make things better.

Tie to tight on YOUR throat Guy!(that's where the lump is)

First off, If you don't want to hear about UPS Labor Relations, Then avoid this section of the Forum. Secondly, unless you've been made moderator of this site, We'll post the facts as we wish. If you choose to take it personally what other members of your management team do politically, that's your personal problem. Those rose colored glasses that you view your sacred company through, are quite deceptive on your behalf.

Fact!- UPS management’s warmth toward Hoffa has a long history. When Hoffa first ran for office, a UPS lobbyist was caught donating cash to his campaign. After he took office, industry analysts declared that UPS was “in love with Hoffa” (Source: Traffic World).

Findings of Fact

1. The Rules’ Framework.
The Rules prohibit contributions to the campaign of any candidate or slate of candidates by employers, unions, and non-members. The Rules permit campaign contributions only by members; each member who is not a candidate for International office may contribute no more than $2,000 for use in the International officer election. Only contributions properly solicited, made, accepted and reported under the Rules may be spent or used by candidates for the 2005-2006 International Union Delegate and Officer Election.

Hoffa has paid over $74,000 to a corporate consultant whose big clients are the Republican Party and nonunion employers, just to run a little website that lies about TDU. Hoffa’s PR spinmeister Richard L has bagged $80,000. And the list goes on. These guys spend their campaign money the same way they often spend members’ dues money.

Hoffa’s former campaign attorney who provided free legal services was also a management lawyer who represented major Teamster employers such as Waste Management and Foodtown against Teamster members. Now Hoffa has appointed this union-busting lawyer to be Teamster General Counsel.

Based on the above mentioned, it comes as no surprise to me that he'd be given a red carpet welcome to campaign within the Company grounds, via escort.

If you could care less about our union business, and who represents us, then butt out. Tom L had a clearcut platform of reform, and a record to stand behind, while Hoffa's is for personal, and corporate gain, with no record to stand behind.

As far as those you work with getting screwed out of rewards they've earned. Why don't you try working on your end to set realistic company standards, etc, that we could all survive under, and make it 30 years to retirement.

Ahh I struck a nerve

First off, If you don't want to hear about UPS Labor Relations, Then avoid this section of the Forum.

Did not say that you should look to learn to read before looking to lead the unionist.

Secondly, unless you've been made moderator of this site, We'll post the facts as we wish.

Absolutely , and unless you are the moderator I will in turn point and say look twn just posted a huge pile of BS. Ain't message boards grand.

If you choose to take it personally what other members of your management team do politically, that's your personal problem.

I'm sorry I was talking about teamster elections and the typical rhetoric that comes with it. Learn to read and respond to what was actually discussed rather then rewriting the script as you go.

Those rose colored glasses that you view your sacred company through, are quite deceptive on your behalf.

I wear them while you paint them. Translation you allege I have swallowed the company bs while you continue to create BS from thin air. Why not stand up and call for honest rhetoric instead of defending the BS flying around?

In fact you have yet to post anything even remotely truthfull. You are either a zombie who has been blindly programmed to follow your master or a blatant liar. I however welcome the opportunity to allow you to prove me wrong. Do so now my little zealot by posting some factual detailed information that tells us why the master that sent you here to post your propaganda is the better choice. Would you sit for me and beg? a nice robust dog biscuit awaits your response. Perhaps you could start by speaking in the english of the working man rather then speaking in the rhetoric your master feeds you. Shall I crack the whip so you feel properly submissive or can you speak without such incentive. Come my little puppet drop down to the working mans level and speak the language of truth and honesty. Rhetoric is the mantra of the submissive zombie you have presented youself representive of.

Tieguy,

Could you take a moment from your rant to point out just exactly twnjrspc was lying about? Please articulate. Are you a Hoffa supporter? You gave a lot of lip service to the TDU supporter and "bullied" him with your post, however you accomplished nothing. Hoffa tried the bully approach with us at Overnite and it got him nowhere. Is there something to be learned from that lesson?
Maybe you are describing your own situation with the S&M stuff? Just a thought.

Thank you ironshot! Mr tieguy obviously wears his tie tight. what he dislikes about me is that I refuse to swallow his spoon fed BS. He figures he's smarter than all of us blue collar folk. He's probably been to college, & the mind manipulation school of UPS, so he feels that affords him the right to talk down to me, and apply his bully tactics. Let us see if any of the following facts sound familiar to him:

UPS Professional Conduct And Anti-Harassment Policy

UPS is proud of its professional and congenial work environment and will take all necessary steps to ensure that
our workplace remains pleasant for everyone. In order to maintain a positive work environment, all employees must
treat each other with courtesy, consideration, and professionalism. The Company prohibits unprofessional and
discourteous actions, even if those actions do not constitute unlawful harassment.
In addition, harassment of any person or group of persons on the basis of race, sex, national origin, disability,
sexual orientation, age or religion is a form of unlawful discrimination which is specifically prohibited in the UPS
community and which may subject the Company and/or the individual harasser to liability. Accordingly, derogatory
or other inappropriate remarks, slurs, threats or jokes will not be tolerated. Similarly, inappropriate visual and nonverbal
objects or conduct are unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Likewise, inappropriate physical contact will
not be allowed in our workplace. In other words, UPS will not tolerate harassment of any employee by anyone for
any reason.
Sexual harassment is one example of inappropriate harassing behavior. Specifically, sexual harassment,
includes unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, or any other visual, verbal or physical
conduct of a sexual nature when:
1. Submission to the conduct is made either implicitly or explicitly a condition
of the individual’s employment;
2. Submission to or rejection of the conduct is used as the basis for an employment
decision affecting the harassed employee; or
3. The harassment has the purpose or effect of unreasonably interfering with the
employee’s work performance or creating an environment that is intimidating,
hostile, or offensive to the employee.
Each employee must exercise his or her own good judgement to avoid engaging in conduct that may be
perceived by others as harassment. Generally, forms of harassment include, but are not limited to:
1. Verbal: repeated sexual innuendos, racial or sexual epithets, derogatory slurs
or remarks, off-color jokes, propositions, threats, or suggestive or insulting sounds;
2. Visual/Non-verbal: derogatory posters, cartoons, or drawings; suggestive objects
or pictures; graphic commentaries; leering; or obscene gestures;
3. Physical: unwanted physical contact, including horseplay, touching, interference
with an individual's normal work movement, or assault; and
4. Other: making or threatening reprisals as a result of a negative response to harassment.
Any employee who witnesses objectionable conduct or believes that he or she is subject to or may be subjected to
objectionable conduct must report it immediately to a supervisor or manager, a Human Resources representative, the
Human Resources manager, the Employee Relations manager, or the UPS Help Line at 1-800-220-4126. These
reports may be made verbally or in writing. Do not allow an inappropriate situation to continue by not reporting it,
regardless of who is creating that situation. No employee in this organization is exempt from this policy.
In response to such reports, UPS will conduct a prompt and thorough investigation. To the extent possible,
investigations will be kept confidential among the employees concerned and those employees who need to be
informed in order to complete the investigation. Any employee who brings such a report to the attention of the
Company in good faith and/or provides information related to such a report will not be adversely affected or
retaliated against. UPS will take immediate and appropriate corrective action whenever it determines that
harassment has occurred. Any employee who violates this policy may be subject to termination or other disciplinary
action.

Now let me guess Tieguy...I'm sure that you're going to say the above is not factual also, right? Tieguy claims to be the benevalant UPS representative, Ironshot. As you pointed out, he and hoffa have something in common..they love to bully people. So you can see what I have posted is true. Do you think he abides by the above policy on the job? I wish you luck ironshot! You are about to learn alot about the new owners of overnite. So when Ups management wants to make you they're whipping boy, just call 1-800-220-4126.

I had some dealings with former UPS management at my previous employer. Same bullying tactics that you talk about. He was the main reason I left that job and went to Overnite. I told him he didn't know jack about the freight biz and should beg for his job back at UPS. After that he began a paper collecting campaign against me in order for me to submit to his ramblings about what he thought he knew. What a "jimmy licker" ! I showed him..I got a different job ! He was later asked to resign from his job after human resources got enough complaints on him. He tried to get a Job at "O",but,I got wind of his application and warned the hiring manager of this jerks bad attituide towards employees, gave him the phone numbers of other former employees to verify my story. After those interviews....his app was put right in file 13 !

ONE MORE FOR THE GOOD GUYS !:thumbup1:
