You don't seem to understand politics. People believed back then that NAFTA would work out better for everyone. If Clinton had vetoed the bill the veto would have likely been overridden. If it had it would have weakened Clinton and hurt his chances for reelection. And for getting his liberal agenda passed. As was his liberal agenda caused him to lose Congress in the midterms and thus his shift to the right to get reelected.
Not sure exactly exactly that’s correct. I spent many hours at Union meetings in the 90s with Union official telling us Union members that NAFTA would be a disaster for working people. I believe
They were actually correct.

The politicians lied about NAFTA in their zeal to get it passed.

Sean Obrian is a similar age as me. I believe things like NAFTA and deregulation are what formed his disagreements with the Democratic Party as a young man and now as a Teamster president. He’s made mention that he thinks they have screwed us more than help us, especially in the last 30 years.

No doubt. And Ross Perot made it the centerpiece of his '92 election bid. But a Democrat controlled Congress passed it. That sign in your pic said it was bad for workers on both sides of the border. I know for a fact, because I lived in McAllen, TX in '93, and later in Eagle Pass in 2002, that NAFTA was very good to the communities along the border. The McAllen area today is much, much more developed than in '93. Border trade was the main driver.

NAFTA definitely benefited Mexico and Canada more but the really big driver of our demise was the China trade. People like to scoff at all the useless junk coming out of China but just about everything we buy is made there now. Beyond a small percentage made in other countries.
