This was to attend the National Truck Driving Championships. My FedEx hubby was competing, wives also get to go (and everything is paid for). If I have to use a week of my vacation, then I have to give up one of my planned weeks. For a function that FedEx is sponsoring

Not true... is discretionary and varies from station to station ,courier to courier, again it all falls under Fed Ex's "flexible Rules" double standards and just plain BS. Call in sick next time and then call HR.

What would HR do? You said yourself that it's discretionary; LWOPs can be granted/denied with as many strings as they want to attach to them.
