Just because it's legal in a particular state, doesn't change a thing. It's a condition of employment.

Almost 17 years at FedEx, I don't know anyone called in for random testing.
I was fedex for about 10 years. I was random tested 11 times. 9 were after I came back from injury. Also, I was once random tested by the DOT itself. Came in and tested about 7 cdl drivers.

Didn't Colorado announce within the first 90 days of legalizing weed, they raked in 55 million in tax revenue? IMO, if this money can be put towards education, infrastructure, and down the road even Social Security. Than I am all for it. Of course, it would be all sorts of slippery slopes when it comes to just who is allowed to smoke freely. Your Surgeon, Airline Pilot, Lawyer, Police Officer, Truck Driver, etc.
It's almost like gun laws through out the country. For the most part you can legally get a long gun or pistol. But God help you if you don't know the exact verbiage of the law in the city your in.

My take. Pot is still a banned substance under Federal law and so it is with Fedex. States have decided to "adjust" this ban, States rights, etc. I believe if you operate any vehicle while working for FedEx you should not be under the influence of any substance FedEx or DOT, deems banned. This includes anyone operating equipment; trucks, vans, tugs, forklifts, loaders, sort machinery, etc., including ramp agents doing WB. If you are just a handler packing cans / trucks or putting boxes on a belt and not dealing with DG or securing pallets, do what you want as long as you do the job right, show up on time and don't endanger others.

Many a state has had the same idea with lottery and gambling revenues. The money is supposed to fix one problem or another that is allegedly underfunded, but after a few years its just another revenue stream and things aren't much better than they were before.

I've been called for random's at least five or six times. Don't do any drugs, they know I'd pass, so they sent me is how I look at it.

Drug tests must be a US thing. A good chunk of the guys at my station wouldn't be employed if they did drug tests up here.

The cops could make a killing if they set up a RIDE check down the street on a Monday. Hell, I know a couple of guys who wouldn't make it through a RIDE check, any day of the week.

What condition is that again? Just to clarify my post, I'm not saying it's ok to be going to work and not be within the company's substance policy. I'm saying the company can't tell you you can't use marijuana on your own time, just because you work there.,if it's legal in your state.
Just to clarify my post. If you are tested and found with marijuana in your system, you can be terminated.
We have randoms at least 4 times a year at Ground.
I'm with Express.

Not sure of that number. But, I don't think you are far off the mark. I have a dispensary on my route and there are ALWAYS cars there from the time they open to closing time.
2015 numbers:
Sales: $996,000,000 (yes, almost 1 billion)
Taxes collected: $135,000,000
$40,000,000 went for school projects
The rest to the legislation which decides, year by year, where the money goes.

One nearby area has the only casino in the area, another of the "we'll use all the tax money to fix the schools" projects. The inevitable happened and the casino balked at being taxed at the level they were and the money not being properly spent. I don't know how they did it but they struck one HELL of a deal. They had their taxes reduced and have agreements now and then to directly fund certain projects and plans. The city/county/state gets most of what they want and the casinos have a bit more say in where their money goes. I wish other organizations would go this route.
