The determination of the effectiveness of the vaccines didn't happen just this week. Someone likely realized it was no longer politically expedient to keep pretending the vaccines change virtually nothing regarding how people should go about their lives.

Congress would be foolish to try and pass any more multi-trillion dollar spending packages right now given what we're seeing happening economically. So there's really no point in Democrats pretending we're still in the midst of a COVID emergency anyway.

Richard E Besser MD (former non-partisan head of CDC) wrote an Oped in Scientific American regarding political appointees’ influence on what the CDC publishes and what it edits/omits.

It’s clear that nothing we read or hear over the next 3.5 years can be trusted. The Left will continue to fuel their narrative and hoards of Americans will agree with whatever they hear and support it to the end.
Once the hatred for Trump runs its course, it will be hatred for those that question the propaganda we’re being fed.

I think "non-partisan" agencies tend to fall in line with the wills of their current appointed leaders/bosses and the elected officials who appointed them. Career employees will of course sometimes disagree with their positions and actions. But they're probably used to rolling with that as administrations change.

Is this a step towards verification that you have been vaccinated? People that weren't wearing masks because they think it's BS or an infringement on their rights, will simply not wear a mask.
