More planes, bigger facilities part of UPS' peak season plans - Memphis Business Journal

Black Friday and Cyber Monday are in the books, but United Parcel Service Inc. (NYSE: UPS) has a long peak season ahead of it.

The Atlanta-based package shipper is expecting another record holiday shipping season this year. The company, which bases its UPS Airlines division and its largest air package sorting hub in Louisville, estimates it will move about 800 million packages this holiday season — up from about 762 million last year.

In preparation, it has increased its fleet of aircraft. In the last year, the company has added six Boeing 747-8s and three 767s aircraft, which are based in Louisville.
