White men are the minority now. :w00t:
scratch can likely tell you that, being that he's from Atlanta and all..

We will be, some day. My youngest son started college last week, and got a HOPE Scholarship, which paid for his in-state tuition and some books. But if he was a minority, illegal alien, or gay, he could qualify for more grants. He didn't qualify for any academic scholarships, because I made two thousand bucks too much last year. His HS Test scores were so high, he finished six out of four hundred in his graduating class, earning a Presidential Award of Acheivement. The fact that he doesn't qualify for Academic Awards when people doing less and getting them just burns me up.
But it makes the Liberals feel good!

There is one perk that both my sons got when they started college. They are both Eagle Scouts with Gold Palms. They both applied for part time jobs at school and were hired on the spot when they mentioned that. My first son got a job in the Computer Lab and now works in the TV Station directing and editing video. My youngest just got hired to work in the Library and has to escort Coeds back to the Dorm if asked. Yes, I'm bragging on them, they are great kids and my wife and I are now experiencing the "Empty Nest" syndrome.:crying:

Made Eagle myself too. They say making Eagle is one of the best things to put on a job application/resume. At any rate; Have you looked into any of the NESA scholarships? Probably stating the obvious, but figured I would mention it anyway.

We looked into the NESA, American Legion, and Sons of the American Revolution, which all have scholarships for Eagle Scouts. My son just hasn't applied himself toward that. The HOPE Scholarship he got is because of his grades. In Georgia, a portion of lottery money goes toward public schools and toward college tuitions. It paid for his tuition and $400 a year toward books. We had bought Savings Bonds that helped some, but he still had to pay for his dorm and food plan. His books for first quarter are $700, he is going for aerospace engineering.

stay away from residence if possible, there are probably tons of places that have cheap rent and are within the vicinity of campus. the biggest scams of college rez are the meal plans.

$700 for engineering textbooks seems about right. remember he can resell those the following term for $500 (if he sells them privately, not through the ripoff book buyback that the schools do)
