You were on the right track until you mentioned Express. Many an Express driver helped pay for Ground's infrastructure in the form of stagnated raises, high insurance premiums, shift premiums cut off and most importantly, the end of the traditional pension in 2008.

There is NO benefit to Express drivers from Ground's hard work. Just a lot of confusion in the marketplace and disgruntled customers we have to put up with.
One fact does remain. When X bought out Roadway Package in 1997, they had to buy it with stock rather than cash. For the majority of years since if not all years Ground has achieved a higher net operating margin than Xpress. In recent years however the margins at Xpress have improved quite a bit. It has however come at a cost. It is no longer considered to be a valued place to work with good wages and benefits. That price has no doubt been paid and paid dearly by the people who have to physically move the shipment on the ground. And over at FX Ground once the single route contractors were eliminated the few multi routes that remain are now experiencing heavy downward pressure on their settlements combined with demands for even greater value to be provided to the corporation. And there's little many can do about it because they are heavily leveraged from buying out other contractors to get to scale.

Tell that to the 27 yr old kid I recently told we have part-time openings. He was making $11.28hr at AutoZone. Now making $16.60hr at Express and is very happy about it. Has a wife and a kid.

23 year old at my old station started when he was 21, within 2 years he is now making over 20 dollars an hour. Pretty sure he feels like it's a good job

It will be fine

The question is if it's a good career. Driving for Ground can be a good job. I've got 23 yr olds making $50k+ a year but it won't be any more when they're 30 yrs old.

I'm not saying either of them are good careers, but you can't just say it's not a valued place to work. Thats is all a matter of opinion and situation

Couriers can move up into management. And in many areas of the country a 30 year old making $26+hr is doing well. There are a lot worse things they could be doing.

That is very true, there are areas of the country where 26 dollars would make you feel rich because half of the people around you don't even have a job

Making 65k or more a year can provide a decent living if you don't try to live like a person making twice that. I know people who make well into 6 figures who are dead broke and people who make 45k a year and make that money go further than I ever imagined. You have to know how to manage what you make and spend less than you make. Pretty basic stuff.

Typical you. One contradiction after another. Talking about how they dissed you in one post then talk about the high quality work experience the next.

At least you are consistent. Consistently negative.
Talk about consistency. You are always running to the defense of a company that could dispose of you in a moment and for no particular reason. and all the b*#l s#!king in the world won't change that fact.

No, I'm not. Just like you to twist and distort. A generation of couriers got screwed. And as I've said repeatedly, AS LONG AS FedEx keeps it's word, new couriers can have a decent life on what they're now offering. I don't buy into Oldfart's claims that we've always had it good, nor your claims that it's still bad. It'll never be good to you until FedEx is unionized and turns over all it's profit to the employees.

ALL OF ITS PROFITS? Can't imagine any public company doing that. I would imagine Wall Street might not like that and how would you fund future endeavors if you gave away all of your profits.

This week and next no days off during the week for me. Just Sunday, unless I want to volunteer for the 25th.

Van: yes, ALL profits? I think not, unless we go Socialist, which isn't a bad idea. More profits to us would be ok, though.

Been here over 40 years and have seen plenty of people terminated. Have NEVER seen a person terminated "for no particular reason".

I am close enough to making my final POD for Fedex, I would just take my talents somewhere else for the last couple of years. Someone that can drive a tractor and has my work history could find something fairly easy. Not what I want to happen but at least I wouldn't be in the fast food industry like you had to resort to.
