Quitting Cigarettes

Sounds crazy, but I got hypnotized. Done by a psychiatrist on my route in three separate sessions, haven't smoked since. Insurance even payed for it since it was billed through a psychiatrist. As for those knocking smokers about quitting, how much it costs, etc....You have no idea how hard it is to quit unless you've been a smoker. Nicotine is the most addictive thing out there.

After being hypnotized did the cravings go away faster than quitting with other options? I'm sure you tried to quit other ways prior to this. Thanks

Any advice from people who work here and are trying to quit?
UpsEmployeeNA,

I have been smoke free for a long, long time.

It is simple but not easy.

Don't pick up one cigarette ever, one day at a time and you will stay stopped.

Often these types of addictions can't be handled alone.

I got help to stop because I needed help.

Sincerely,
I

Yes I tried many times, nothing worked. Every once in a while it smells good and I'd love to have one, then I'll run into the chain smoker who smells horrible and it turns my stomach. I chew gum, eat mints, do whatever while I'm working to keep my mind of it. I do have an e-cig that I hit occasionally when I'm super stressed. All that being said, I will never have another one. I do believe the hypnosis helped me convince myself of that. Hope that helps.

As for long term, I'm smoke free for two years. I quit for short periods many times and have never been more confident than I do now that I will never smoke again. Now, if I could just stay out of the casino......

I don't see how quiting smoking can be hard, smokeless tobacco on the other hand, is my choice of poison, I suppose it's all in what you take a liking to. I honestly believe smoking is more harmful, however there's always a risk in EVERYTHING

Bubble gum! Quit smoking cold turkey when the doctor said my kids allergies and asthma would never get better as I smoked around them. But after 20 years the bubble gum is starting to hurt my jaws!!

2-3 packs a day?? At $10/pack you are talking $20-30/day, $600-900/month! If those figures aren't enough to make you quit I don't know what would.
You are applying logic, common sense and rational though processes to an addiction.

I have never been a smoker, but I am plenty familiar with the concept of addiction and it is not something that you can simply think or analyze your way out of.

Several people I know have totally quit using the vape systems. You still get the nicotine, but not the tar. People who I thought never could. Then they slowly cut down the nicotine.

My daughter has been smoke free for two years now, she switched from cigarettes to "vaping" with e-cigarettes, and gradually decreased the nicotine level of the fluid down to nothing over a 6 month period. Her boyfriend quit smoking the same way but he still uses the e-cigarettes. I am a big fan of the e-cigarettes, they are a much healthier alternative to tobacco and they don't stink. Not saying they are perfect, but they are by far the lesser of evils versus cigarettes or chewing tobacco.
