Short term disability and insurance

Hi First post here.I have a question. Will a driver loose their health insurance if he goes out for STD? I know we need to work at least 1 day a week to keep our benefits. Does anyone not in the union have to pay for their health coverage while out? A while back I was in a very bad economic situation and had to cut all the extra expenses (Work in Florida). Do I loose the short term benefits and insurance for not been in the union? BTW I had never cross a picket line and was in the union for 10 years. Just things got bad at home. I'll be joining again after I come back from disability.
