And so you guys want to move manufacturing back to the US ? That's fine One problem. Guess who's the world leaders in the production and export of the metals and raw materials that would be required by that US based manufacturing?

The dollar being the reserve currency required that we import more so that there would be more dollars available internationally. When investors stand to make millions and billions by leveraging cheaper labor, it would have been nearly impossible to keep manufacturing in the US.
True, but look at the aftermath. We do ourselves in pursuing profits at all costs.

Guess who's the world leader in the export of many agricultural products those countries seek to feed themselves with? It's not a one way street.

Today the Russians announced that it currently holds 630 billion in gold and foreign currency reserves. While it views western sanctions to be a bit "unpleasant" it says that it has enough stashed away to pay all it's bills for the next 2 years.
I'm sure that makes you happy!

That's ok. Once prices from other sources go high enough, we'll start mining what we have again.

Are you saying that the US can offset an embargo on the importation of Russian agricultural commodities? Dream on. Oh and BTW guess where much of the inputs that goes into US fertilizer comes from?

No, I'm saying that the U.S. is also one of the world's biggest agricultural products suppliers so it's not like we don't have anything to offer in trade. Russia isn't the only source of needed raw goods.

Guess who's #1 producer of rare earth minerals and holds the largest reserves ? Let me give you a hint...it's not the US...

Who cares who's number 1 right now? We have reserves and the ability to refine them without turning farming communities' drinking/irrigation water into toxic sludge. In fact, once mining gets going in the US, we'll probably find even more deposits, because it will be economical to look for them. And we will develop new technologies that will make it possible to access previoisly inaccessible deposits. Isn't the free market grand?

What if those deposits aren't there to begin with? . Given ground penetrating radar and other technologies currently available if those deposits existed here in the states they in all likelihood would have been found by now. And BTW who's number 1?.....China.
