Better and qualified teachers. Not just passing students, really trying to teach them something. You don’t get A for just showing up. Teaching us about credit cards, taxes, loans, investments and insurance.

Transplant a bunch of Japanese students into American schools and we’ll have the best education system in the world.

A large part of the onus falls on students and families for not valuing education in the first place and making it a priority. We have a materialistic value system in America.

I’m a lefty insofar as that I want my tax dollars to create universal public goods that can be considered an investment in our population. But it’s up to people to have the will to utilize those public goods in a meaningful way, otherwise it’s wasted money. Which is kinda what we have now.

one thing I notice about human beings is that the world is big and complicated and there is a lot of stuff we don't know, so to get around that we try to graft everything into these buzz words in our minds. for many americans the "word" socialist is such a buzz word. I have no idea if this woman will be a good mayor or not, but America has socialism, Medicare, Social Security objective are socialist programs and they are the most popular programs in America.
