The Lets Get Rid Of Our Cops Movement

They often don't. Sometimes they do. That's enough for me. There are also tons of mentally ill whose friends and family would point them toward proper care if they knew it wouldn't mean saddling them with medical debt.
My mother was diagnosed as a schizophrenic when I was 9. About 9/10ths of the time she's lucid but she gets delusional. Refuses to get prescriptions because in her mind she's fine. Yes, some will. But a lot of mentally ill are on the street exactly because they refuse assistance. And would rather live that way than deal with their issues. But again I'm not against having a special force to deal with such issues. But stop trying to defund the police. The police get called when there's a pressing issue that has people upset, worried, afraid. This idea that we can live without the police because most problems only require a gentle touch and a willingness to listen is a fantasy.

How about 'some problems'?

I can think of very few incidents, even minor ones, for which it'd be a good idea to roll some sort of professional social or mental health worker in lieu of the police. Have them respond alongside the police, sure.

I'm hoping @It will be fine will help me with some examples of incidents police shouldn't respond to so I can broaden my thinking on this.

Georgia governor declares state of emergency and calls up National Guard

“Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp on Monday declared a state of emergency and activated as many as 1,000 National Guard members.

Kemp, a Republican, said the executive order follows "weeks of dramatically increased violent crime and property destruction in the City of Atlanta."

The governor's statement says more than 30 Georgians were wounded by gunfire over the extended holiday weekend, including five people who died.

One of the five deaths was that of an 8-year-old girl who was shot while riding in a car with her mother and another person. Secoriea Turner was killed Saturday night as the car tried to enter a parking lot that had illegal barricades, police said.

"We've had over 75 shootings in the city over the past several weeks," Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms said when talking about the 8-year-old's death on Sunday. "You can't blame that on APD (Atlanta Police Department)."

“According to CNN affiliate WSB, authorities said 60 to 100 people went to Georgia State Patrol headquarters early Sunday morning and some used bricks or fireworks to damage the building.”

now the cops in DC are not wearing name tags and insignia. wearing masks and trying to be incognito

what does this remind you of??????

Watchmen: Why The Police Wear Masks Revealed

“The Tulsa Police Department now wear masks to protect their identities from terrorist organizations, including the Seventh Kavalry. In a violent incident called (somewhat ironically) the White Night three years prior, members of the Seventh Kavalry attacked the police in their own homes; most were killed but many cops who survived quit the Force.

However, the police who remained rallied under Chief Judd Crawford (Don Johnson). They instituted strict new rules to protect themselves and their families, including a policy to hide their identity by always wearing masks in public.”

Judge me.
I wasn’t asking about violent threats. This is where you must be confused. Should we devote more resources to preventing those issues or do we spend more on cops that are ill equipped to deal with them? It’s reasonable to say police should focus on violence and not get called for everything else. We should be limiting the scope of issues police are asked to respond to.
So we should get life coaches for drug dealers and kingpins? To help them focus their entrepreneurialism in a more legal direction?

Do you think the best solution for mental heath and addiction is the police force?

Personally, i think a bullet to the head is the best solution for both of those issues

Think you and "President" (dictator) of the Philippines Rodrigo Duterte are on the same page here:

There was a big (?) protest here locally today. At least that is what it was billed as. A couple of charter buses full of black lives matter idiots came up from Minneapolis looking for support. Last I heard they left town early because the ALL lives matter group overwelmed them.

"Seattle Police release bodycam footage showing violent protest, property damages

Police released bodycam footage Monday evening showing Sunday afternoon protests in downtown that turned violent.

Authorities said a dozen Seattle police officers were hurt and one was hospitalized from the protests.

The video shows protesters approaching the West Precinct and a man holding an umbrella to intentionally block the view of a security camera.

Police said officers moved in to escort the person away from the doors and were immediately assaulted with bottles, street cones, and fireworks. One officer was struck in the neck and injured by fragmentation from one of the explosions resulting in that officer being hospitalized, police said.

During the confrontation, officers used OC spray and stop the assault from the crowd. Officers arrested one person for assault and a second for theft of a police bicycle.

The department said they released the video ,"in an attempt to be transparent and will continue to release videos of significant incidents."

The injuries occurred after an initial group peacefully gathered at Westlake Center for an Abolish ICE rally around 10:30 a.m. But a few hours later, another group armed with baseball bats joined the group and marching south on 5th Avenue, according to Seattle Police.

The injuries to the officers were mostly minor, but one police officer was taken to a local hospital for treatment for burns to their neck, authorities said.

The group began smashing windows and leaving graffiti behind on some businesses along the way, eventually moving to 3rd Avenue where more businesses were looted, had windows smashed and walls tagged with graffiti, police said.

One of the damaged businesses was the Victrola Coffee Roasters at 3rd Avenue and Pine Street. The Seattle Municipal Court Building was also vandalized.

A KOMO News crews arrived at the demonstration as it moved down 3rd Avenue but were pushed out of the way by the group of demonstrators.

The group eventually made their way to the West Precinct at 8th and Virginia Street, where they attempted to break into the building and clashed with officers, police said.

"The protesters that were outside the west precinct then lit what was described as mortar type fireworks and then threw these fireworks at officers from a very close range," said Sgt. Lauren Truscott with Seattle Police.

Two of the injured officers suffered cuts while a third officer was burned in their neck by a firework and was later taken to a local hospital.

Police made two arrests outside the West Precinct; one for investigation of theft, and the other for assault.

But the group wasn't finished and marched up to Capitol Hill where they smashed more windows and continued looting, Seattle Police said. Photos from the scene showed a Starbucks store had its windows smashed out.

A small fire was set inside one of the damaged Capitol Hill businesses but was quickly extinguished, police said.

The protesters made their way to Seattle Police's East Precinct building where they smashed several of the front windows and tossed into a mortar-type firework into the lobby, causing a small fire, police said.

"My understanding is that somebody breached the gate to get in there and break the window—and threw something into the lobby," Truscott said."

Poor guys. They just want to do their job and get home to their families every day.
