The Lie Machine

On the first day of August, a mob of 200 right-wing Texans stormed the parking lot of a Randalls grocery store in southwest Austin. They were united in a single goal: Disrupt the "office hours" that Rep. Lloyd Doggett, the district's congressman, had scheduled for his constituents. The protesters targeted Doggett for his role in crafting the House's bill to reform health care, brandishing signs that read "No Government Health Care" and "No Government Counselor in My Home!!!" But their anger seemed to encompass a universe of conservative fears: higher taxes, illegal immigration, socialism. The threat of violence was thinly veiled: One agitator held aloft a tombstone with the name Doggett. Screaming, "Just say no!" the mob chased Doggett through the parking lot to an aide's car — roaring with approval as he fled the scene.

Conservatives were quick to insist that the near-riot — the first of many town-hall mobs that would dominate the headlines in August — was completely spontaneous. The protesters didn't show up "because of some organized group," Rick Scott, the head of Conservatives for Patients' Rights, told reporters. "They're mad about the stimulus bill, the bailout, the economy. Now they see that their health care is about to be taken over by the government."

In fact, Scott's own group had played an integral role in mobilizing the protesters. According to internal documents obtained by Rolling Stone, Conservatives for Patients' Rights had been working closely for weeks as a "coalition partner" with three other right-wing groups in a plot to unleash irate mobs at town-hall meetings just like Doggett's. Far from representing a spontaneous upwelling of populist rage, the protests were tightly orchestrated from the top down by corporate-funded front groups as well as top lobbyists for the health care industry. Call it the return of the Karl Rove playbook: The effort to mobilize the angriest fringe of the Republican base was guided by a conservative dream team that included the same GOP henchmen who Swift-boated John Kerry in 2004, smeared John McCain in 2000, wrote the script for Republican obstructionism on global warming, and harpooned the health care reform effort led by Hillary Clinton in 1993.

When I saw the thread title I thought this must be about the way Obama is representing the health insurance legislation in the US House.

DS, Getting sick of it.
Americans don't want to be a nation, never ever wanted to be a nation.
They want to be individuals living in a land, and just to work for themselves.

The only Anarchary on Earth, and they are proud of it.

And that is why the Empire and superpower as we once knew it, is going down.
Asia, (China), will take it's place.

What not Canada ?

No, but word is, we will be the North American Auto Manufacturing Center.
Costs are too high in the US, and production will move to Ontario.
(no huge pension plans, and healthcare costs for employers).

As you see Toyota has already moved, and Opel now being Canadian owned, and Detroit in the future moving north.

How many articles has the National Review had to rescind, especially on the topic of health care?

More 'Free Market' drivel from the Cato Institute.

Apply your Free Market to oil or other commodities, health care is not the same thing.

Libertarianism, Ayn Rand philosophy is unworkable.

I can't decide if you tag alongs are true libertarians, like wkmac, or just hate Obama. You sure weren't raising a stink with GWB, and we told you that the next President would keep all those powers he grabbed.

I read an interesting article about 'Borderers'. I wonder how many of you would fit in that category? I know wkmac does.

Are you 'Double Standard'?

Very fitting.

Rolling Stone has had more awards for excellence in writing and investigative journalism than the National Review, for example.

Yes, DS is double standard.
I looked up some of his very older posts. He was kinda like me. But gave it up. He's from Canada, too.

Sorry DS, but told you that once before.
But, I do understand him.
Whats the point to argue ?
Let them think they know it best, and keep quiet.

The mouth organ of the CIA! Who takes them serious anyway.

More 'Free Market' drivel from the Cato Institute.

Cato's drivel is more mercantilist corporatism of the minarchist type at best. They sold out a long time ago to Statist Drivel! And no, they are not true free market!

Apply your Free Market to oil or other commodities, health care is not the same thing.

Yes it is but like your counterparts, you want to apply the interventions of the State which causes unintended consequences. Your counterparts would use the State to benefit oil and in the role of flipflop, you'd do the same with healthcare. You also made a response to Brett in another thread on his so-called defense of free market and let me add to seperate the wanna-bees to the real McCoy, I'd end state entitlement of Corp. status and IP/Copyright priviledge and that last one took me a while as I have 2 kids who are composing musicians. I dare say that the johnny come lemmings since Nov. 08' would run quickly in the opposite direction of any of that! Just ending corp. status alone would blow the markets wide open for competition.

If we are to keep the term "capitalism" at all, then, we must distinguish between "free-market capitalism" on the one hand, and "state capitalism" on the other. The two are as different as day and night in their nature and consequences. Free-market capitalism is a network of free and voluntary exchanges in which producers work, produce, and exchange their products for the products of others through prices voluntarily arrived at. State capitalism consists of one or more groups making use of the coercive apparatus of the government — the State — to accumulate capital for themselves by expropriating the production of others by force and violence.
Rothbard on Capitalism circa 1972'

Libertarianism, Which form?

Ayn Rand philosophy is unworkable. In the longrun I'd agree. Minarchist at best! Besides Rand took the idea of Atlas Shrugged From Garet Garrett.

I can't decide if you tag alongs are true libertarians, Where were they before Nov. 2008'? That should be the deciding factor!

like wkmac, Thank you for noticing :wink2:

or just hate Obama. You sure weren't raising a stink with GWB, and we told you that the next President would keep all those powers he grabbed.

I think the 2 sides just switched chairs and if the music changes after the next election, they will switch back. It's not about principles and loyalty to ideas but about controlling raw powers by any means necessary.

I read an interesting article about 'Borderers'. I wonder how many of you would fit in that category? I know wkmac does.

You mean the Borderers Reviers? Interesting!

Just for wkmac:
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/9/21/784599/-Yo,-Pundits!-Heres-Whats-Up-With-the-Republicans

In the earliest decades of this nation -- before this nation was even a nation -- four waves of settlers arrived from Britain. The first three waves landed in New England, the Southern Colonies and the Middle Colonies, respectively, and each defined the culture of its own region. The fourth wave came in mostly through the Middle Colonies, but it didn't stay there. Instead, it migrated inland, into the Appalachian mountain range. It spread south, then west, through the Tennessee River Valley. It crossed the Mississippi River into Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas. And because of its greater willingness to migrate, it's reached into almost every corner of this country.

The fact that this culture has, to a greater or lesser degree, influenced almost every part of America, doesn't mean that it is America. It's only one color in the mosaic. Yet it claims a monopoly on "American values," and incredibly, the media let it get away with that.

Here's why the media are wrong.

The existence of an “Obama hit list” which includes Alex Jones amongst the biggest political enemies of the Obama administration is believable not because it was reported by tabloid magazine The Globe, but because such lists are known to have been kept by the Clintons and others very close to the President.
The Globe cites sources close to the Obama administration in compiling a list of 25 names, people who the Obamas intend to “take down one by one,” that includes Glenn Beck, Rep. Joe Wilson, the Congressman who called Obama a liar on national television, as well as country singer Toby Keith.
Alex Jones is listed as enemy number 24 on the list due to his Obama Deception DVD and his upcoming film Fall Of The Republic, both of which slam Obama as a front man for the global elite.
“Obama is getting strategic guidance from Bill Clinton,” the report states. “Bill has met several times with Obama to discuss how he can counterattack his enemies, the source says. The most recent powwow was a 90-minute session at New York’s trendy Il Mulino restaurant on Sept. 14. As police and secret service surrounded the eatery, Bill sat with Obama plotting various ways to get even with his fiercest critics.” Clinton allegedly urged Obama to draw up an enemies list and “then take them down one by one.” According to the article, Obama intends to engage in “all-out mortal combat.”
Alex Jones indicates that if the Obama administration indeed has an official enemies list and his name is included, he will consider taking legal action.
Political hit lists are by no means an invention of supermarket tabloid magazines. A March 2009 CBS News story described how Speaker of the House and close Obama ally Nancy Pelosi has kept such a list throughout her political career, “a roster of those whom she believes have screwed up, betrayed her, challenged her or merely annoyed her.”
According to the article, Pelosi has sought to strip power from her adversaries and “has a propensity for remembering slights and grievances for years.”
The story goes on to list eight people who are on Pelosi’s political enemies list, including Rush Limbaugh, who also appears on the Obama hit list published by The Globe.
Only the stupidly naive would deny the fact that politicians are a back-stabbing and vindictive breed, therefore it’s common sense that they would attempt to discredit and disenfranchise those who have opposed and exposed their behavior. Or as one blog puts it, “Michelle Obama does come across as a really vindictive shrew, so it is easy to imagine her having an enemies list.”
The fact that Bill Clinton was purported to have advised Obama who to put on his enemies list fits with the long held view that both Bill and Hillary kept hit lists during the Clinton’s presidency as well as during and after the 2008 Democratic primaries, a topic explored by MSNBC in June 2008.
“While Hillary Clinton has a short list of people who disappointed her, Bill Clinton, who reportedly has an encyclopedic memory of all the people he has helped, employed or appointed over the years, apparently has a far longer one,” reported the New York Times In November last year.
On September 27, former president Clinton said the “vast right-wing conspiracy” that attacked him during his presidency has been weakened, but continues to operate against Obama.
“I mean, they’re saying things about him [Obama] — you know, it’s like when they accused me of murder and all that stuff they did,” Clinton told David Gregory of NBC’s Meet the Press.
According to anonymous insiders, Bill and Hillary Clinton kept detailed lists of enemies. Others even suggest that a list of people who died in suspicious circumstances were the victims of a “Clinton death list” which included journalists, political adversaries like Vince Foster, and others who had witnessed the Clinton’s corruption at close quarters.
Earlier this year, it was reported that Obama operatives had compiled an enemies list of people spreading “disinformation” about Obama’s proposed national health care plan. In response to the effort, U.S. senator John Cornyn of Texas wrote a letter to Obama that “expressed serious concern about the White House’s new program requesting Americans to forward email chains and other communications opposing the President’s health care policies. Sen. Cornyn is seeking assurances that the program is being carried out in a manner consistent with the First Amendment and America’s tradition of free speech and public discourse,” Cornyn’s website noted on August 5.
During the election, Obama’s campaign asked Missouri law enforcement to target Obama’s critics. Two high-profile Missouri officials — Jennifer Joyce, St. Louis Circuit Attorney, and Robert P. McCullouch, St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney — went on local television and said they would prosecute “anyone who lies or runs a misleading television ad during the presidential campaign.” Gov. Matt Blunt subsequently declared the court officers had “attached the stench of police state tactics to the Obama-Biden campaign.”
The term “enemies list” came into prominence during the Nixon administration. Charles Colson and his assistant George T. Bell had compiled a list of official enemies in 1971. The official purpose, as described by the White House Counsel’s Office, was to “screw” Nixon’s political enemies, by means of tax audits from the IRS, and by manipulating “grant availability, federal contracts, litigation, prosecution, etc.” Nixon’s list contained the names of newspaper editors and journalists, actors, supporters of Democrat Eugene McCarthy and others.

For the record, Obama's Hit List is (credit to Bill Clinton for some help):
1)Glenn Beck
2)Larry Sinclair
3)Rep. Joe Wilson
4)Sarah Palin
5)Sean Hannity
6)Orly Taitz
7)Pat Boone
8)Jon Voight
9)Rush Limbaugh
10)Ann Coulter
11)Rupert Murdoch
12)Jesse Jackson
13)Dick Cheney
14)Bill O'Reilly
15)Toby Keith
16)Rex Rammell
17)Hank Williams Jr.
18)Steven Anderson
19)Saul Anuzis
20)Bill Cunningham
21)Paul Krugman
22)John Rich
23)Wiley Drake
24)Alex Jones
25)Michelle Malkin
